  • Not Good

Host is a weak interviewer and topics are all over the place. I am unsure what the majority of these episodes have to do with Ronald Reagan.

  • Very informative podcast about Reagan’s ideals

Each podcast tackles a different aspect of Reagan’s strongest beliefs and the host and guest unpack it in an informative and yet positively-biased manner. Some episodes struggle with audio quality, cell phone frequency inference for example, and I’d prefer the host interrupt or answer his own question a bit less. However, the guests are excellent and the regular questions of favorite Reagan book/speech/quote allow for more investigation after the episodes are done. Thanks and keep them coming... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

What Holds America Together: Reaganism with Dr. Erica Brown
Q: How can the United States embody covenantal politics in the 250th anniversary era amid social fragmentation?
By reaffirming shared belonging, local communities, and dignity of difference, and by leaders articulating a prophetic moral vision that guides policy toward the common good rather than merely advancing interests.
What Holds America Together: Reaganism with Dr. Erica Brown
Q: What does Rabbi Sacks mean by the distinction between a covenant and a contract, and why does it matter for American politics today?
Sacks viewed covenants as long-lasting, voluntary commitments that require mutual responsibility, whereas contracts are transactional and fragile when power dynamics shift; applying this to politics suggests policymakers should aim for a covenantal approach that binds citizens beyond partisan divides.
National Treasure: How the Declaration of Independence Made America: Reaganism with Michael Auslin
Q: Explain the different ways you wanted to engage the Declaration.
He describes three 'lives' of the Declaration: its material history and preservation, its evolution as a symbol and creed, and its role as a cultural object that connects civics with commerce and daily life.
National Treasure: How the Declaration of Independence Made America: Reaganism with Michael Auslin
Q: Tell us about why you made this shift from Asia to America and the Declaration.
Auslin discusses recognizing a natural tie between his prior focus on American engagement abroad and a desire to understand America from within, leading to a lifelong question of what the Declaration has meant to the nation and why it has shaped so much of American identity.
Unlocking the Strait of Hormuz: Reaganism with Mark Montgomery
Q: What is the current state of the blockade and its impact on Iran and global oil markets?
The blockade is an economic instrument intended to pressure Iran by curtailing its fossil fuel revenue, while the U.S. expects allied support to sustain it; the short-term effect is higher fuel prices and market volatility, but there is a perceived longer-term benefit if Iran yields.
