  • Excellent resource, great stories!

I have followed this podcast since the beginning, I believe and have enjoyed every episode. I teach nursing and have used some of these podcasts as assignments in my pathophysiology and health assessment courses because they are so helpful in teaching nurses the application of what content I'm teaching. How Sarah breaks down the patho, pharmacology, and nursing management of many disease processes is so realistic and I appreciate how up-to-date they are (I learn from her, too!). I enjoy her inte... more

  • So insightful and helpful.

This podcast is amazing. I’ve been an ICU nurse for 5 years, have my CCRN, but I still struggle to connect the dots with patient care. I’m working to get better everyday and hearing this podcast helps so much. I’m working to better my practice by constantly taking things and studying at home. Please keep this going.

  • Just the spark I needed

I graduated nursing school almost 2 years ago. Unfortunately, nursing school burnt me out. Even though I was an excellent student and got great grades, the environment really turned me off to learning.

Since then, I was hired to my local rural community hospital, where I eventually landed in the emergency department. While I love the small town vibe and really want to serve this community, it’s been hard to feel prepared for whatever may walk through the door.

This podcast was exactly what ... more

  • If you want to be a successful critical care nurse, start here👆🏻

I was hired in September 2025 to initiate, develop, and pilot a rapid response team at my local hospital in Texas. Naturally, the first thing I did whenever this opportunity came was to start from episode 1 of the rapid response RN podcast.

To say that Sarah has been instrumental in my success, would be a complete understatement. Her ability to summarize an entire critical patients journey into one podcast episode is nothing short of amazing. She comprehensively covers the subtle early warnin... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

163: Nurse Gwenny Takes Over the Podcast
Q: What is the biggest misconception about rapid response nursing?
That it is all about following ACLS; in reality, the bulk involves soft skills, team dynamics, and early activation to prevent emergencies from escalating.
163: Nurse Gwenny Takes Over the Podcast
Q: How did you persuade leadership to fund a dedicated rapid response team?
By combining retrospective data with cost considerations, showing how rapid responses prevent ICU transfers, reduce code blues, and protect nurse retention, which aligned with hospital priorities like quality metrics and patient safety.
160: The 2026 AHA/ACC New PE Guidelines with Dr. Mark Creager
Q: Can you walk us through the new A–E clinical categories and why this system was adopted instead of older labels?
The new categories (A through E) provide a graduated scale of severity with subcategories and a respiratory modifier, offering a more nuanced prognosis and guiding treatment choices more precisely than the older massive/submassive or low/intermediate/high-risk labels.
159: Nurse Led Stroke Alert Process with Kat Siaron RN
Q: What were the biggest barriers to implementing the nurse-led code stroke?
Concerns centered on scope of practice and ensuring the nurse could call a stroke alert safely; we addressed this by including neurologists in the code stroke process and providing rapid response support.
159: Nurse Led Stroke Alert Process with Kat Siaron RN
Q: What was the core change in workflow that allowed nurses to lead on stroke alerts?
We shifted activation from physicians to nurses at the bedside, with rapid responders and neurologists aligned to support, ensuring faster CT and treatment while not removing physician involvement.
