  • Amazing!!!

I have been listening to your podcast since I started nursing school. I listen to your podcast on my way to and from school. I have enjoyed finding different episodes regarding what I am studying. The episodes help further explain and breakdown concepts along with giving examples to help put it into concept. Thank you!

  • What I’ve been missing!!

I can’t tell you how long I’ve been looking for something like this podcast. I have been out of practice for years, doing CE’s to keep my license active, and desperately searching for practical information that actually informs the fundamentals and beyond. I am headed back to the hospital and this is easing my nerves. Thank you for your work here and I hope it continues for a long time.

  • Slight correction

I started listening to this podcast when I was in nursing school and never stopped! At this point, I’ve been an ICU nurse for four years. I appreciate being able to brush up on a wide variety of topics, since I work in such a specialized field (the Burn ICU). Having said this, I have a slight correction for Nurse Mo. recently the burn episode was re-aired, along with a new burn pod-quiz. Both had the same (very common) error that I wanted to point out to make sure your listeners aren’t overestim... more

  • Slightly poor taste

I appreciate the valuable clinical content in this nursing podcast, particularly the discussion on pain scales and drug-seeking behavior. However, one example given about a patient eating fried chicken and laughing came across as culturally insensitive and in poor taste. I think a more neutral, individualized example would help avoid reinforcing stereotypes and ensure that all listeners feel respected.

  • New BSN grad here!

Nurse Mo has helped me so much throughout my entire BSN program! I read the Nursing School Thrive Guide in 2022 before I started my program in January of 2023 and listened to her Podcasts immediately after finishing the book and realizing she also had a podcast! Even my 7 year old daughter has learned from Nurse Mo (her favorite is the flash card podcasts). I got my BSN on December 13 and was even on the Dean’s List. ❤️ Recently accepted a job on a trauma/neuro unit as an RN and I am so thankful... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#504: PodQuiz - Respiratory Failure
Q: Why would the patient with a non-rebreather mask not be fully corrected by oxygen therapy?
Because the underlying problem is ventilation, not just oxygenation, so high-flow oxygen cannot fix inadequate ventilation.
#504: PodQuiz - Respiratory Failure
Q: Which assessment finding should concern you more when a patient changes status from restless to quiet and hard to rouse?
A prior restless patient who suddenly becomes quiet and difficult to rouse suggests impending respiratory failure due to rising CO2 and reduced ventilation.
#504: PodQuiz - Respiratory Failure
Q: What important problem could be missed if you only looked at the oxygen saturation level?
End-tidal CO2 rises can indicate hypoventilation before SpO2 deteriorates, serving as an early warning for worsening ventilation.
#504: PodQuiz - Respiratory Failure
Q: What's going on at the alveolar level in pneumonia?
The alveoli are filling with fluid and debris from the infection, reducing the surface area available for gas exchange and causing hypoxemia.
#504: PodQuiz - Respiratory Failure
Q: Why can a patient have severe hypoxemia while maintaining a normal carbon dioxide level?
Carbon dioxide diffuses across the alveolar-capillary membrane much more easily than oxygen, so CO2 can stay normal even when oxygenation is poor.
