Musician and self-described Beatles fanatic Jonathan Pretus ranked the entire recorded catalog of the Beatles, because he's a big, big nerd. Then he decided to make a podcast to talk with other people and learn about their connection with The Beatles' music. Tune in as Jonathan and his guests, joined by his co-host/wife Julia (a more level-headed, casual fan) discuss the rankings, what they think ... more

Sometimes, all it takes to write a signature song is...quitting your band. During a sabbatical from the tense White Album sessions of 1968, a trip on Peter Sellers' boat gave Ringo the inspiration for "Octopus's Ga... more
It's weird how many songs the Beatles have that aren't "hits" but are still universally loved. It seems everyone knows and loves "I've Just Seen A Face," despite never being a single and never appearing on the big compilations. Maybe it's just one th... more
McCartney's ability to craft the most capitvating, simple, and gorgeous melodies never fails to amaze. Conceived (we think/he tells us) as a song of encouragement and support for the civil rights movement, in full swing by 1968, "Blackbird" has becom... more
One of the best things about the White Album is seeing so many different sides of each Beatle. To close out the first disc, we get a rare glimpse of the really vulnerable and sensitive John, a side we really haven't seen laid bare prior to this. It's... more

Firstly, I must say that I really like the podcast. The guests are excellent and there are some lovely little nuggets of trivia. However, and maybe this just comes with the territory of ranking so many songs, each episode seems to be Jonathan pointing out the problems with the song in order to justify where it is in the ranking. I don’t want to hear about the perceived flaws of ‘The Long and Winding Road’ or ‘Hey Jude’, two of the greatest songs ever written by anybody. It’s ok to say, ‘I love t... more
But complain you do! Paul still gets dissed, but thanks, Julia, I agree Blackbird is wonderful on it’s its own accord, & thanks guys for a good discussion.
My new go-to Beatles pod. So much fun! I have personally ranked the Beatles in various ways with a good friend, so I love that Jonathan took this on and we get their deep dive on every song. The guests I’ve heard so far have been really enjoyable, and it’s one of those podcasts where you feel like you’re in a room with some likeminded friends. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the rankings! And I REALLY appreciate the lack of ads, bc some podcasts are soooo jarring with the relentless ad br... more

Entertaining look at the Fabs' catalogue and Jonathan's enthusiasm and love for it comes through. Some baffling, low rankings of obviously superior tracks i.e. Back In The USSR and The Long And Winding Road. Some good guests too. My advice to the presenters would be to keep their political allegiances to themselves as listeners are there for music/entertainment and not to be brainwashed. Not great to alienate some people and things said can date very quickly opening you up to looking rather fo... more
