  • Very informative

This is my FAVORITE podcast, it’s very up to date and very informative. I also find this podcast very easy to follow and not robotic at all. I often repeat older episodes when I’m all caught up.

  • Excellent

Excellent for keeping up with newest issues and research in Radiology with helpful insight and explanations that I greatly appreciate as a trainee. Sound quality is great, as is the cadence and clarity of content, especially compared to a few other radiology podcasts out there. Highly recommended, my favorite radiology podcast so far.

  • Too robotic

This podcast has a lot of potential but I have a hard time listening and following along. It sounds like they are reading from a script most of the time and the conversation doesn’t flow normally. Most podcasts work well when the host/hosts engage in conversation or act like they are storytelling.

Also, I’m not sure what the target audience is but I would assume graduate level or above with knowledge of radiology. However it seems like they are explaining information as though the audience does... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Thermal and Nonthermal Liver Ablation
Q: How should clinicians decide when to use ablation versus surgery, and what factors drive that choice?
Clinical decision-making hinges on patient-specific factors such as tumor size, location, and transplantation goals, with operator experience and risk-benefit considerations guiding whether to pursue ablation or surgery; for smaller lesions (up to about three centimeters) ablation can be equivalent to surgery, but efficacy drops for larger tumors, and proximity to nerves or vessels can shift the choice toward cryoablation or microwave accordingly.
Thermal and Nonthermal Liver Ablation
Q: Could you summarize the main differences between heat-based and non-heat-based ablation modalities?
Heat-based modalities rely on focused electromagnetic energy to raise tissue temperature and cause cell death, with differences in frequency and energy delivery shaping their performance, while non-heat-based approaches like histotripsy destroy tissue mechanically through controlled bubble dynamics, avoiding significant heating and preserving extracellular matrix.
MRI for Active Surveillance in Prostate Cancer
Q: How is radiological progression defined and monitored in Precise?
Progression is defined using a 1-to-5 Precise scale, with emphasis on changes in MRI-detected lesion volume over time, and significant changes generally involve around a 50% increase in volume or changes in lesion conspicuity or staging.
MRI for Active Surveillance in Prostate Cancer
Q: What types of patients fit well under active surveillance?
Patients with non-visible lesions or those with lower grade tumors (grade group 1–2) are considered for active surveillance, while visible high-grade tumors (e.g., grade group 3) are typically treated rather than surveilled.
Evolving Strategies for Renal Cell Carcinoma
Q: What motivated your team to examine outcomes of ablation versus surgery for small renal cell carcinomas at a national level?
We were motivated by the practical problem of rising incidental detections of small renal masses and the limited, heterogeneous comparative data against surgery. We wanted to assess performance of ablation in routine practice across an entire healthcare system to see how it stacks up to surgery in real-world settings.
