  • From book to podcast

An executive from my previous job gifted me with the book and while I was reading it I got curious and searched for a podcast. Voila! Hooked ever since. I can totally relate to Kim’s experience of being the youngest leader to becoming the old sage overnight. I lead my first team at 23 and learned everything the hard and painful way.

  • Good content, stop interrupting

This is great stuff. However, Kim can be super hard to follow and understand. From super loud to mumbling and hard to understand in one sentence. I think Kim needs to let others complete a thought. I wanted to hear more from Bon Sutton but she kept cutting him off.

I love this concept and the book. But please may the hosts find another word for jerk’? I cannot in all sincerity use this word about and to my colleagues!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Cult of The Credo: How a Beloved Brand Betrayed Your Trust 7 | 36
Q: What are the dangers of antipsychotic medication? Why is it being prescribed?
Antipsychotics are used in American nursing homes as a cost-cutting measure, allowing facilities to require sedation for patients instead of providing appropriate staffing for their care.
The Cult of The Credo: How a Beloved Brand Betrayed Your Trust 7 | 36
Q: Why are we not all talking about this book? Why has it not been reported on?
One of the problems with the book is that I left daily journalism to do it. Books are really not normally a place for original stories, particularly about iconic companies like Johnson & Johnson.
The Billion-Dollar Cost of Bad Meetings 7 | 35
Q: What should a manager focus on in one-on-one meetings?
The manager should focus on truly understanding the thoughts and needs of the employee, ensuring the meeting is for the employee's benefit, not just a status update.
The Billion-Dollar Cost of Bad Meetings 7 | 35
Q: What are the top things people should consider to reduce the time-wasting and money-wasting component of meetings?
Organizations need to have a meeting about meetings, focus on whether meetings are necessary, who should be there, and gather feedback to create accountability and improve future meetings.
Managing Managers: How to Navigate the Jump from Manager to Director 7 | 32
Q: What are the first steps a new manager should take?
They should have one-on-ones with direct reports to solicit feedback.
