  • Great content

As a practicing community pharmacist in regional NSW, I really enjoy the wide variety of content. I find it an easy way to boost my knowledge as a busy, working mum of 5 kids! One small critique I would make is the audio quality (particularly of the guests), could improve. Sometimes when I’m driving or if other background noise is loud, I am unable to hear or understand the guest speakers and I have to stop listening midway. Otherwise, a great podcast that fills a needed gap in the Australian ph... more

  • Informative listening

Thanks for bringing out these episode, they’re a big help in keeping me up to date!

The only other thing I’d like to mention is that the sound quality on these episodes can be really variable, some are easy listening and some are quiet and crackly. It would be great if the sound quality could be edited before upload.

  • Insightful and educational

When prioritising time, continuing education often comes low on my to-do list. This podcast is a way to fit CPD into my busy day, while I’m out for a walk, doing the housework or driving my car.

Sometimes the content is reviewing topics with which I’m already familiar, often updated with new guidelines and recommendations and sometimes there are topics I’ve not learnt before. I have even implemented the knowledge gained in the podcasts into my everyday practice.

Would recommend to any Austra... more

  • Bandwagon

I’ve only recently found this podcast although I’ve been a pharmacist for a long time.

Great variety of topics, easy enough to listen to while doing chores, driving etc; but also interesting and in-depth enough to learn something from every episode.

Thank you to all who work on this podcast!

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

PPP 191 - Slowing Myopia Progression: How Atropine Fits in with Dr Loren Rose
Q: What does typical treatment with atropine look like over time for a child starting at age 5-6?
It involves starting at 0.01% and reassessing every six months, potentially increasing the dose in steps (0.025% or 0.05%) if progression continues, while weighing side effects and aiming for slow growth rather than complete cessation of progression.
PPP 191 - Slowing Myopia Progression: How Atropine Fits in with Dr Loren Rose
Q: When is atropine indicated and who typically makes the call to start it?
Indications include faster-than-average progression in myopia, with decisions supported by guidelines and measurements like axial length; decisions are usually made collaboratively by eye care professionals, including optometrists and ophthalmologists.
PPP 190 - Osteoporosis with Dr Mariya Farah Kitson
Q: Before starting denosumab, what baseline checks should be done?
Counselling about rebound risk and six-monthly injections, baseline labs (calcium, vitamin D, renal function), and a dental assessment to mitigate osteonecrosis risk.
PPP 190 - Osteoporosis with Dr Mariya Farah Kitson
Q: What is the recommendation for who should be screened and when?
Screening is ideal for all Australians over 70 and high-risk individuals under 70; consider corticosteroid exposure, hypogonadism, thyroid disorders, and other risk factors for earlier testing.
PPP 190 - Osteoporosis with Dr Mariya Farah Kitson
Q: How is osteoporosis diagnosed? Is it a clinical diagnosis? Are bone density scans required?
Diagnosis can be clinical or radiological with a bone mineral density (BMD) scan; a T score of minus 2.5 or less confirms osteoporosis, and screening is advised for older adults and high-risk individuals.
