  • Excellent content

Content isn’t dumbed down and I’ve learned more about psoriasis and available treatments than I’ve learned from my doctor. I don’t miss an episode even though it is difficult to listen to due to the vocal fry of the host. I try to tune that out and concentrate on what the expert guests have to say.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep.277 "Progress Towards Identifying a Psoriatic Arthritis Diagnostic Test"
Q: Why is it so difficult to diagnose psoriatic arthritis?
Because PSA is heterogeneous with varied joint and tendon involvement, non-specific symptoms can be mistaken for age-related or mechanical pain, and primary care providers may not immediately consider PSA, leading to delays in specialist referral and diagnosis.
Ep. 273 "Moderate to Severe Plaque Psoriasis in Children and in Adults with High-Impact Site Involvement"
Q: What makes managing psoriasis in high-impact sites particularly challenging for children and adolescents?
High-impact sites like the scalp, nails, and genital areas can be difficult to treat with topicals alone, lead to discomfort, affect daily activities, and are more likely to be undertreated when body surface area is small, prompting consideration of biologics.
Ep. 272 "Insights on the Use of Biosimilars for Psoriatic Disease"
Q: What does interchangeability mean for patients and pharmacists?
Interchangeability is a separate FDA designation that, if proven, allows pharmacists to substitute a biosimilar for the originator without prescriber approval in many settings, though state laws govern actual substitutions.
Ep. 272 "Insights on the Use of Biosimilars for Psoriatic Disease"
Q: What is a biosimilar and how does it differ from a biologic originator?
A biosimilar is very similar to the original biologic but not an exact replica due to the complexity of biologics; it undergoes rigorous totality-of-the-evidence testing to establish similar function, structure, and behavior in the body, and can be used in the same therapeutic manner as the originator.
Ep. 271 "Hope and Healing: Treating Nail Psoriasis"
Q: Dr. Yamauchi, once someone is diagnosed with nail psoriasis, what treatment or treatments do you initially start with?
Dr. Yamauchi explained that treatment usually starts with topical therapies, followed by steroid injections if necessary.
