  • Mentoring

I ‘accidentally’ saw this podcast while deleting a mountain of email and Oh! Thank you God for not letting me miss this one!! It taught me so much and helped me appreciate the elder women who pour wisdom into my life!

It was forwarded to friends younger and older who pour into me and inspired me to be a better mentee and mentor, when called. I learned from this interview that mentoring is definitely a calling that must be God-directed at every step in order to truly link the generations. Thank... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Power of Thank You: Donor Relationships That Last
Q: How can I make sure that every donor feels valued? What are some of the techniques you would use knowing, this person doesn't have much time?
Dobson suggests setting aside a consistent time for calls, beginning by getting to know donors rather than asking for money, and noting details such as family names, interests, and milestones. He says small personal gestures and thoughtful voicemails can help donors feel seen.
Boards Behaving Badly Part 2
Q: What would a healthy functioning, high functioning board look like? Like how do you step away from those extremes that we see and kind of meet in the middle and shoulder the responsibility without being a micromanager and yeah, how do you do that?
Godsey says boards should prepare for meetings, focus on governance rather than day-to-day management, participate actively, know their bylaws, and share responsibility for the organization's mission.
The Power of Thank You: Donor Relationships That Last
Q: What other things are you suggesting for donor thank yous and relationship building?
Dobson recommends separating a genuine thank-you message from the tax receipt, changing thank-you letters periodically, contacting donors to learn about them, and recording personal details so future interactions can show that the organization listened.
Boards Behaving Badly Part 2
Q: So you want to talk about those a little bit?
Godsey describes how individual board members can cross into micromanagement, why disengaged boards can fail to govern, and how board members should address these patterns as a group.
Inside the Package: Abortion Pills by Mail
Q: What is one practical step you would encourage other pregnancy centers with this knowledge that you've unpacked for us today?
Davis recommends training staff to recognize trends, asking clients whether they have researched a provider, and inviting them to bring in packages for review or disposal if they wish.
