Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Empowering tomorrow: transforming grids with Automation and Communication
Q: Would you be able to share a customer success story with us?
We partnered with Earthsted to protect long, powerful wind-farm cables, addressing challenges in fault distinction and protection through an adaptive model-based differential protection, which reduces outages and improves efficiency.
Empowering tomorrow: transforming grids with Automation and Communication
Q: Could you tell our listeners what your job really is in very simple terms?
I ensure that power gets from where it's produced to where it's needed, typically by connecting offshore wind farms or data centers to the grid through substations and providing automation, protection, and communication so everything runs smoothly.
Why Great Service Gets Even Better With Digital and Software
Q: Jamie, can you tell our audience exactly what it is that you do in layman's terms?
I focus on digital transformation, building next-generation digital service portfolios, and turning breakthrough technologies into tangible benefits for customers by wrapping them with domain knowledge to digitize their install base and services.
How Software Transforms the Energy Value Chain
Q: So how does what you've just told me fit into your portfolio that you manage right now?
Hitachi Energy's software portfolio consists of three main lines—Network Control for grid operations, Asset and Work Management for data and maintenance, and Energy Portfolio Management for trading and commercial activities—together enabling a full value chain from planning to trading. These solutions can be used standalone or integrated to maximize value.
How Software Transforms the Energy Value Chain
Q: Right, power grid. You've not always worked in the power grid. So you come from oil and gas, is that right?
Yes, I spent about 35 years in oil and gas, focusing on software for the industry, and I've carried that digital thread into power, leveraging the same emphasis on simulation, data, and automation to improve safety, efficiency, and cost in energy systems.
