  • Bite sized movie fun

I’m not the biggest podcast person due to the length of the episodes, however, Leigh & Tim’s short episode lengths and to the point and direct (and also light and humorous) approach to talking about movies is very much up my alley. They’re both really nice people too. A nice and easy listen, it feels like you’re just talking with a friend after seeing a movie.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Joel Edgerton gets real about boy behaviour and The Plague
Q: Is it true that you were originally going to direct the film at first, and like why you ultimately decided against that here?
Joel explains he considered directing but chose to support Charlie Pollinger from the sidelines because the script and Charlie's short films showed strong directorial potential, so he opted to help with producing and connections rather than direct, in order to protect the director's vision.
Ready or Not's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett on breaking rules and gushing blood
Q: How much fake blood did you go through making this film?
The team was told 325 gallons of fake blood were used, not counting extensive on-set testing and prep, underscoring the film's heavy reliance on practical effects.
Ready or Not's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett on breaking rules and gushing blood
Q: What was a fun aspect to let loose with when it came to extending the law and creating those rules?
They found it enjoyable to drop the prior question of realism and embrace a known framework, using it to explore novel twists and surprises within the established world, while keeping the rules and consequences clear for the audience.
Ready or Not's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett on breaking rules and gushing blood
Q: Just to build on that, how do you as filmmakers keep it fresh and build on what we did see in the first film?
They keep it fresh by continually challenging the material with writers and producers, ensuring that each new element either surpasses or subverts audience expectations, and by making the second film feel like a cohesive extension rather than a repeat, blending romance, comedy, and horror in new ways.
The Bluff director Frank E Flowers reimagines pirates in pop culture
Q: How did you want to reframe pirates and make us think differently about that kind of lore?
I wanted to reimagine pirates closer to what I believe they would have been, which is like a strike force of terrorists that when they come, they are organized, tactical and scary.
