  • Too many caveats

So.Many.Words. Just get it out! There is no reason the latest podcast should be 1 hour and 39 minutes. Low content for the time investment.

  • Love the tips!

This is a great podcast full of information to help me use my credit cards as efficiently as possible. But the cadence of the host’s speaking style is so choppy. Lots of halting speech makes it hard for me to concentrate on what she’s saying. I know that is a minor pet peeve but as a podcaster maybe consider a speaking coach? The interviews are more natural.

  • One of my favorite podcasts

This is one of my favorite podcasts. Devon is interesting, organized and knowledgeable. Her last podcast on paying taxes was even better than her normal great explanation of a points and miles topic. I was looking for information on this and everything I needed to know was in one podcast that I had taken almost two hours researching before I listened to it. I normally listen to her podcast on Mondays but I was busy and put it aside. If I hadn’t I wouldn’t have spent two hours researching. Eve... more

  • Love the tips!

This is a great podcast full of information to help me use my credit cards as efficiently as possible. But the cadence of the host is a little too choppy lately. Lots of halting speech so that it sounds like reading off a script. I know that is a minor pet peeve but it does make the podcast hard to listen to for me. The interviews are more natural.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

163. Listener Q&A: Bilt vs Amex, Spending Toward Status, & Rethinking Points Fundamentals
Q: Is it worth changing a Chase Freedom Unlimited to a Freedom Flex for the Amazon five-times bonus this quarter?
Yes, if the quarterly five-times bonus category (e.g., Amazon) provides a meaningful boost and you can benefit from the Flex's rotating categories, but beware the cap of $1,500 per quarter and the loss of the Unlimited's universal non-category earning. A product change preserves the account age and limits but sacrifices the current welcome bonus if it's high and may require holding multiple Flex cards for max exposure.
163. Listener Q&A: Bilt vs Amex, Spending Toward Status, & Rethinking Points Fundamentals
Q: What should I consider when Chase denies another card under 524 and I want to shift to another issuer?
First, obtain the denial reasons from the bank via the hard copy notice, understand why denials occur, and consider shifting a high-limit line from an existing card to the new one to maintain utilization. If Chase remains unavailable, focus on business cards (which don't affect 524) and broaden to other issuers with transferable points like American Express, Capital One, or Citi, while reassessing your goals and the continued value of Chase within your portfolio.
163. Listener Q&A: Bilt vs Amex, Spending Toward Status, & Rethinking Points Fundamentals
Q: Rakuten to built, $1,135 to transfer. Take the cash or points?
The host uses a conservative valuation, showing that 113,500 built points could be worth between $1,702 (1.5 cents/pt) and up to $5,675 (5 cents/pt) depending on redemption skill and targets; even at a very conservative 1.5 cents per point, keeping the rewards as Built points yields significantly more value than cash ($1,700 vs $1,135).
156. Making Large Family Award Travel Actually Work with Dr. Alison Curfman (Part 2)
Q: Beyond Hyatt, what other programs or tactics have you found valuable for booking family travel with points?
The discussion highlights the use of multiple programs and a willingness to explore options like travel clubs and timeshare-related opportunities, plus practical tips for budgeting meals and leveraging hotel credits to minimize cash outlays.
156. Making Large Family Award Travel Actually Work with Dr. Alison Curfman (Part 2)
Q: Before you step on an airplane, to what extent do you involve your kids in the travel planning and conversations about where you're going?
They're involved early and often, with discussions about options, collecting opinions, and giving them a vote on daily activities, which not only builds excitement but also reduces resistance later.
