I like the content and guest speakers. But they need a better editor. The sound and cut doesn’t always sound like a professional podcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Inside the gaps in fertility and surrogacy systems
Q: So I wanted to start with the positives. From your point of view as a clinician, what's working well in fertility care today?
There are many things working well, including the broader conversation about fertility, the normalization of treatments like egg freezing, and increased access through employer benefits and societal dialogue, even as other parts of the system are seen as fragmented or insufficient.
ACA exchanges take spotlight in Q1
Q: Are there any notable headwinds or drags that you expected but did not materialize as much as feared, particularly around ACA exchanges and Medicare Advantage?
There was concern about enrollment declines and risk pool shifts as subsidies ended, but many plans prepared for worst-case scenarios and reported that marketplace volumes were still manageable with some signs of improvement or stability in MA management. Some carriers highlighted that MA plans had recently exited or trimmed markets, which helped balance costs even as exchange plans faced pressure.
ACA exchanges take spotlight in Q1
Q: What are some of the key trends you're seeing this quarter, and are there any outliers or unique developments you want to highlight?
The quarter showed that for-profit health systems generally avoided disasters on earnings calls but faced curveballs like a very weak flu season, which reduced respiratory volumes and patient volumes. This pulled down revenues modestly, yet executives stayed on track with their full-year projections and emphasized cost management, efficiency measures, and AI-enabled improvements as ways to offset volume headwinds.
Shadow AI: Dos and don’ts for healthcare orgs
Q: There are three ways to look at it—approved tools, banned tools, or tools that are not technically approved but not banned—what should health systems do about this?
Health systems should use a structured approach: leverage approved vendors through IT and compliance, implement risk-tiered governance, conduct audits to identify unapproved tools, and engage stakeholders to ensure safe, appropriate use.
Shadow AI: Dos and don’ts for healthcare orgs
Q: So we're going to talk about shadow AI, and I'd love for you to define the term and maybe just to take a step back, explain in general what shadow anything in technology is.
Shadow AI is the unauthorized and unmonitored use of AI tools in the workplace, which creates governance and safety concerns, especially in highly regulated healthcare environments.
