Great conversation with Brad Lidge. He was appropriately on the mound for the last pitch of 2008, tip of the cap Brad. I especially enjoyed hearing about his archeology career. Thanks Scott for the great job you do fleshing out the people you talk to. It’s nice to gain an extra dimension on those in the sport. High Hopes for our Phillies!

Paco Figueroa
Q: Is there a case to recombine the lineup to maximize the impact of speed, such as moving a fast player to a different spot to maximize run-scoring opportunities?
He discusses the idea that the opportunity to steal can come from many spots in the lineup, but emphasizes that decisions are situational and best left to the manager and coaches who adjust based on behind-the-bat threats and in-game dynamics.
Paco Figueroa
Q: First, can you explain what it can do for a team to have elite speed at both ends of the order and what it opens up on the bases?
Figueroa describes speed as a catalyst that applies pressure to pitchers and defenses, enabling base runners to create scoring opportunities not just through stealing but by influencing how teams defend, run the bases, and construct an offense around speed.
Hunter Pence
Q: When you came over from the Astros at the deadline in 2011, what did you sense about the Phillies and how did you fit into the middle of the order?
I felt like the Phillies had a clear, high-expectation window and needed a right-handed bat to balance the lineup; I tried to bring energy and a steady presence, while adapting to a passionate, sometimes demanding market.
Scott Boras
Q: Is there a realistic scenario where Justin Crawford performs so well over the next few months that he works himself into the leadoff spot and we see Bryce Harper or Kyle Schwarber batting cleanup?
The host summarizes that while Crawford could push for a top spot if he dominates, the team (and coach) likely prefers Harper and Schwarber in top spots behind Turner, with Crawford potentially moving up if he remains exceptional, but the general expectation is he will stay lower in the order for now.
Phillies prospect Gage Wood
Q: Do you envision your future as a starter or a closer, given your pitch mix and experiences in college and pro ball?
The guest indicated a preference for starting due to routine and long-term development, while acknowledging the appeal and moments of closure, expressing willingness to adapt as needed by the organization.
