Thorough, interesting, practical and informative. A must listen for anyone who cares about their city, especially Los Angeles.
No better, more interesting, or kore fun way to learn about LA housing and history than this series.
This is honestly the podcast I have been wishing for for a while— a deep and nuanced yet accessible exploration of Los Angeles, its complicated history, and the many thorny issues facing it today. Paved Paradise has made me (finally) feel informed about my own city, and has given me valuable new perspective on real estate, gentrification, and the idea of housing as a human right. Highly recommended!
It's easy to feel powerless given what's going on nationally. To counter this feeling, I've been looking for ways to create positive change—and I've found that a lot can be done on the municipal level. This podcast has been part of my education about the issues that most concern my city—namely topics relating to housing, infrastructure, and homelessness. I'm surprised there isn't more out there on the complex issues facing LA—and cities in the United States as a whole—and I'm glad Paved Paradise... more
Amazing in depth stories about how people, groups and institutions shaped certain neighborhoods in Los Angeles over the past 100+ years. I felt like I was being guided on a walking tour through the streets of LA, reliving all of its history and change. I’ve lived in LA for over 10 years and learned so much about my own city. Impeccably researched, with compelling interviews and a great host. Highly recommend!
