  • A must listen for those in perimenopause and better yet before it begins!

This show is a wealth of knowledge about the female body and perimenopause. While I did not start listening until perimenopause had hit it is knowledge every woman should have. The hosts are funny, caring and informative.

Ep 43 | A Terrible Strength: Dr. Kemi Doll on Black Women, Perimenopause, and the Womb Care We're Still Getting Wrong
Q: What has been the impact of storytelling on clinical practice?
Stories from patients help clinicians see beyond numbers and lab values, prompting more thorough histories, better communication, and a personalized approach to care.
Ep 43 | A Terrible Strength: Dr. Kemi Doll on Black Women, Perimenopause, and the Womb Care We're Still Getting Wrong
Q: Why is there a push to rebrand birth control in your discussion?
They argue that the term birth control narrows the perceived use of hormonal therapies and obscures their broader applications in treating conditions like endometriosis and fibroids, especially for Black women.
Ep 43 | A Terrible Strength: Dr. Kemi Doll on Black Women, Perimenopause, and the Womb Care We're Still Getting Wrong
Q: What inspired the structure of your book and why include women's stories?
The authors describe that narrative helps connect patients to evidence, making complex medical information relatable and actionable, as well as highlighting real-world care patterns.
Ep 43 | A Terrible Strength: Dr. Kemi Doll on Black Women, Perimenopause, and the Womb Care We're Still Getting Wrong
Q: Can you describe how your work reframes Black women's womb health beyond maternal mortality?
Dr. Doll explains that the issue spans the entire life course, not just pregnancy, and she emphasizes connecting stories with data to reveal systemic disparities and the everyday neglect Black women face in gynecologic care.
Ep 41 | Brain Docs, Part 2: Migraines, Hormones, & Perimenopause
Q: Should people routinely test for ApoE4 to assess dementia risk?
ApoE4 increases risk but is not determinative; testing can be optional and context-dependent. If pursued, it should be accompanied by a plan to address modifiable factors (lipids, exercise, blood pressure, etc.) rather than assuming a clear preventive path from the test alone.
