  • New AI narration is not it

I love the podcasts and the interviews with Paddy O. I was excited to get the narrated stories, but super disappointed by the AI voices. So distracting and unnatural. Hire a voice actor and support real people telling real stories

  • AI mess

Sadly, the AI narration is very hard to listen to and understand. Unfollowing

  • Hate the Friendly Robot

Tried to listen to a long read about two female climbers but was incredibly put off by the piece being read by a “friendly robot” and had to stop listening.

An outdoors related podcast utilizing AI technology? Call me a Luddite, but the hypocrisy in the resource gobbling industry of AI being used by an outdoors loving podcast is too much for me to want to continue to support.

  • Quality is less than before

OK, so the audio by automated voice is bad. The intonation is incorrect. Some lines are repeated. Words are randomly pronounced differently than they were previously. Difficult to listen to.

Also, I am not enjoying the story topics as much as I did in the past.

  • Lemme know when AI is booted out

I have been an avid listener for many years and was so disappointed in the first AI-narrated weekend podcast. I made it about 45 seconds before I couldn’t take it. Please make an announcement when these are being read by a human so I can stop deleting them from my queue.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Cracking Open the Outdoors (And Maybe Spacetime) Through Sculpture, with Cannupa Hanska Luger
Q: What experiences have you had that made you first dream up art finished by weather?
Cannupa discusses early experiences on Standing Rock and in diverse landscapes that taught him to think of weather and environment as agents in shaping perception and material transformation, leading to works where weather completes the piece and signals a broader narrative about time and memory.
Vermonters are Tough; Adaptive Vermonters are Even Tougher, With Allie Bianchi
Q: What did you say to the people who told you rehab would mean you'd be sedentary for life?
Allie responded with a blunt defiance, saying she would not accept that outcome and would push to reclaim outdoors and independence.
The Unexpected Ultrarunning/Rock and Roll Connection, with Ben Gibbard
Q: I have a theory about you and your music and your running. I think that you run and you write music because of curiosity. What is the meaning of all these experiences and relationships that I have in my life? Who am I and what am I made of?
Ben responds that not knowing is often the exciting part and that the moments when life falls away are the ones he chases, where everything but the present action is shed, allowing a clearer focus on one foot in front of the other.
What a Healthy Relationship With Your Phone Looks Like, with Catherine Price
Q: Define fun and give examples from your life.
Fun is the confluence of playfulness, connection, and flow; it comes from experiences with people, doing activities together, and being fully engaged rather than passively consuming.
What a Healthy Relationship With Your Phone Looks Like, with Catherine Price
Q: A few days ago, you finished The Amazing Generation. Can you define what a phone-based childhood is and how it informs our brain's defend mode versus discover mode?
Price explains the contrast between a play-based childhood, which fosters discovery mode and openness to new experiences, and a phone-based childhood, which often leads to defend mode where people feel threatened and perform for others.
