  • Inspiring

I’ve listened to this show almost since the beginning and I’m never disappointed. The recent ‘secret’ Sasquatch episode is one of my favorites. It’s a departure from the interview style the show usually follows, but it was really good. Looking forward to another episode like this one!

For so long, I have missed the adventure in my life with a family as a single mom and working full-time. This podcast is helping to ignite my adventure gene and to realize that life and any challenge I encounter is also an adventure to be had.

I like that it is not focused on one discipline. It’s motivational too. His other podcast Florida Uncut is a great listen for people interested in Florida.

Ep. 1187: Madagascar - Kayaking the Mangoky from Source to Sea with Oscar Scafidi
Q: What did you learn about Madagascar and the people along the Mangoky?
Oscar highlights Madagascar's distinctive history, ecology, and the warmth of most communities, counterbalanced by occasional bureaucratic friction. He emphasizes the value of local knowledge, the absence of venomous wildlife on Madagascar's rivers, and the importance of ethical storytelling and supporting conservation through book proceeds.
Ep. 1187: Madagascar - Kayaking the Mangoky from Source to Sea with Oscar Scafidi
Q: What were the biggest logistical challenges, and how did you plan for them?
The team faced uncertain sources, limited aerial imagery, heavy packing with a 5.45-meter Klepper kayak, and strict Guinness World Record conditions requiring paddle or carry-for-all-the-way. Rendezvous points for resupply and local guides were critical, as was carrying capacity and careful weight management.
Ep. 1187: Madagascar - Kayaking the Mangoky from Source to Sea with Oscar Scafidi
Q: What inspired you to attempt a source-to-sea expedition on the Mangoky river in Madagascar?
Oscar explains a fascination with Madagascar's isolation and unique river networks, the challenge of locating a river source with little signage, and the drive to document a truly remote crossing that pushes both gear and human limits, while also sharing a passion for long-distance exploration and the educational value of his books and film.

Q: What role does your book play in sharing your journey and inspiring others?
