“There are parts of my childhood that are points of pain for me. There are things that I wish had been different, and ways I wish had been treated, or things I wish had not been said to me. But I’ve realized that I can now do those things for myself.... more
“You always want to make sure that we know how we want to be treated, and what’s ok with us and what’s not. You want us to care about ourselves and treat ourselves well.”In this episode we are in the garden with my 14 year old daughter Naomi Nelms. I... more
“I’m supposed to be serving. I’m supposed to be speaking life into people, just like she spoke life into me. She was always serving people. She taught me that I’m supposed to be open to everybody, and love everyone. Not just the people who are blood.... more
“My mother’s roots gave me wings. I was deeply rooted. I had no reason to dig deeper into the soil. I could just start spreading my wings and reaching and looking up.”In this episode Dominique shares how the support and stability her mother and grand... more
“I didn’t have to earn love. I didn’t have to prove that I was good enough. I just was. I was always good enough. My mother taught me that there’s always enough love to go around. You never run out of love.”In this episode I am in the garden with Kes... more
“There’s a lot of pressure on women to be these super women, and we can’t do everything. We need rest. We need relief. We need to maybe do one or two things at a time. There’s no merit in being a phenomenal mom, a career driven woman, working out twi... more
“The women in my family are storytellers. They understand the importance of storytelling in intimacy and building connection. They know how to draw out stories. They know how to remember well. If I mirror any part of them today, it would be that.”I... more
“For moms the expectation is that you’re taking care of other people. When you look at how many hours there are in a day, taking care of yourself and other people just doesn’t feel feasible… I can not do everything. I can not be all of the things. I ... more
I became aware of Satya from listening to Alex Elle's podcast recently. The first episode I listened to on our mothers' garden's, was episode 5 and I enjoyed through all the way through. I love how everyone's responses to the questions are all different and it really makes you think about how it applies to your own life. The content isn't like anything you normally hear on social media and thats what sets it apart! Cant wait to check out more.
The podcast is good, I guess my only downside is the episodes lack descriptions. When you have a podcast about motherhood and mothering each episode can resonate with someone differently. Sometimes people go in search of a specific episode but with this one you can’t because you can’t really see too much of what the episode is about. I would have liked to be able to read descriptions so that I could listen to an episode that I know would resonate
I listened to the interview and another interview with another mama and I really enjoyed listening as I could relate to both the interviewer and the moms being interviewed in some way or another. Keep up the great work! Helping to put words to dormant feelings and learning to love myself more deeply.
This podcast is a beautiful and honest look into a topic that isn’t explored that often, if at all.
As a woman of color, I’ve always observed how different my relationship with my mother was compared to other women in other cultures. Not better or worse... just different.
This podcast unveils ALL of the questions that I often have asked myself. What is a mother? How does who my mother is or was effect me? Is it
Possible that her weeds in her garden helped me become the woman I am today, just... more
Satya has such an amazing way of listening and asking the questions that dig deep into the soul of her guests. We get to hear the honest truths of their mothering experience and how the way they were raised laid foundations for how they wanted to love.
As a mother learning how to mother herself, I’ve found this show healing in a sort of way. Hearing other women’s stories of their relationships with their moms has given me a new way to process my own. Keep up the good work, this is needed!
Listening to this podcast was like therapy. Satya is an incredibly compassionate and empathetic host. Love it!
Beautiful, elegant artwork. An audial tapestry of maternal strength, power, grace and love. Such a blessing to listen to. Thank you Satya
Thanks Satya!
