  • Entertaining, informative, but not stuffy

Opera is a wonderful, sometimes amazing art form. But learning about it can sometimes seem like doing homework.

Not with this podcast though. This is great for learning about Opera in general, and for learning about Opera current events. The people involved are knowledgeable, but don’t take themselves too seriously. It’s informative, but also fun.

What I Did For Love! ft. James Conlon
Q: Maestro Conlon, welcome to Opera Box Score.

Big Tech Traviata! ft. Robert K. Meya

The guest introduces the summer plans and European collaborations, focusing on Santa Fe Opera's 2027 season and the joint productions with Bavarian State Opera.
Single Origin Pour-Over Opera! ft. David Neely
Q: How much risk are you willing to take with repertoire, and do you worry about losing audience?
Neely explains that while Des Moines does take calculated artistic risks, the company builds experience and trust with its audience, aiming to present works that have merit and can grow the repertoire using a collaborative artistic process.
Period Performance Pelléas! ft. Opera Atelier
Q: How do you select and prepare your singers for these physically demanding roles?
We audition for not just vocal quality but the ability to move, listen, and interact with colleagues; the text must come alive in performance, and singers must be willing to take artistic risks and collaborate deeply with others.
Period Performance Pelléas! ft. Opera Atelier
Q: Why did you decide to adapt Pelléas and Melisande with a Baroque sensibility and a reduced orchestration?
The choice was driven by a belief that Debussy's music, reimagined through Opera Atelier's sensibility, can be understood more clearly in a reduced frame that suits the hall and the singers, while preserving the text-driven, dreamlike atmosphere of the piece.
