Have you felt it? Something is rippling through humanity at this moment. It's a stirring... a longing... a remembering. A sense that we are more capable than we’ve been led to believe. We want to feel alive, not sedated.. but we've lost our way. We've traded a life intertwined with nature for asphalt and artificial lights. We've swapped natural movement for a sedentary existence. We've given up fo... more

  • Wow!

Jill, as a long-time listener I appreciate your sharing about the frustrations of being a restaurant owner in a small town. Thanks for your candor & a reminder to treat the folks at our home town eateries with kindness. Your food sounds amazing! I would love to try! Keep up the inspiring posts!

  • Refreshing

I appreciate Jill’s authenticity, honesty, transparency, critical thinking and vulnerability. She seems not afraid of controversial subjects, but not in a way where she’s going for shock-value or just seeking attention. I think she’s simply expressing her opinion in an unapologetic yet respectful way.

I don’t share all the same opinions or values with her (lots that I do share) but the way she talks doesn’t trigger defensiveness in me like some people do (not that it ever really should since th... more

  • Refreshing!

I just found this podcast after seeing the planner online. I have to say, I found this refreshing. I also hate when things become bipartisan or political, and I also don’t fit into any box. All I want to do is live an authentic life which includes being out in nature and living a simpler life. Does that mean hiding from society or joining a cult? No. She described it perfectly in this first episode and I related to every word.

  • Real life comes from balance

This recent episode about stepping back is so beautiful and heart felt! I can imagine you’re going to get a lot of grief from hardcore homesteaders, trad moms, and homeschool families - but I’m so proud of you for speaking your truth. Forced content isn’t authentic. I’m glad that you realize you actually are a people person, you can love business and still be a good mom, and that - yes - driving our kids everywhere is exhausting! Take whatever break you need, most of us will still be here when/i... more

S17: E11: Raised Beds: Worth It or Overrated? A Deep Dive with Gardener Scott
Q: What would you do to build one raised bed using free or scavenged materials?
Start with reclaimed lumber, it doesn't need to look pretty; just build a basic frame and fill it with good soil, possibly sourced from your own yard.
S17: E11: Raised Beds: Worth It or Overrated? A Deep Dive with Gardener Scott
Q: Is there anything you would recommend people just don't grow in a raised bed?
Avoid planting invasive plants like mint in raised beds unless they have tall enough sides to prevent escape.
S17: E11: Raised Beds: Worth It or Overrated? A Deep Dive with Gardener Scott
Q: What type of watering setup do you recommend for raised beds?
I recommend hand watering for personalized attention or using a drip irrigation system tailored for specific plants within the beds.
S17: E11: Raised Beds: Worth It or Overrated? A Deep Dive with Gardener Scott
Q: How do you replenish the nutrients in raised beds after growing for a year or two?
Incorporate organic matter into the soil, particularly in fall, to feed soil microbes, which will help increase nutrient availability.
S17: E11: Raised Beds: Worth It or Overrated? A Deep Dive with Gardener Scott
Q: Can you walk someone through the thought process to answer the question, are raised beds right for me?
Start small with one or two beds, assess your gardening goals, and consider soil quality, as raised beds can help improve gardening in poor soils.
