  • Great Representation

It’s pretty rare to hear podcasts based on trauma and addiction with majority of male guests, so I’m really loving this one so far. As a lady, I have encountered numerous men struggling with inner demons. I hope podcasts like this can help men feel more comfortable discussing addictions, egos and mental health. Love this pod, the hosts and the guests!

The Dark Side of Below Deck They Never Showed | Ashton's Drinking and Recovery Journey
Q: How did your path to sobriety begin in relation to your time on Below Deck?

“I Sh0t Up With an Open Wound… It STILL Wasn’t Enough” | From Florida Pill Mills to 11 Years Sober
Q: What was the worst detox you went through, and what did that experience teach you?
The hardest detox was switching from oxy to methadone and going through severe withdrawal with crawling skin, waves of nausea, and intense restlessness, which underscored that detox alone isn't a solution and underscored the need for a structured recovery plan.
“I Sh0t Up With an Open Wound… It STILL Wasn’t Enough” | From Florida Pill Mills to 11 Years Sober
Q: I'd love to kind of hear about when you're drinking and drugging started, what was your drug of choice and how did that progression look?
It started with food for comfort, progressed to party drugs in high school and college, with cocaine, ecstasy, and eventually heroin and oxycodone as the pills dried up; the pattern was escalating use, trying to fit in, then chasing a bigger high until it culminated in a near-fatal overdose and a decision to pursue sobriety.
