  • Good show! Use of AI mars it.

Lily Herman is great! I think the whole team behind this does a good job, and there are some sincerely interesting interviews. I appreciate that they disclaimed that they used AI for a translation, but also that piece of info made me immediately stop listening and unsubscribe. Too bad!

  • Using a male voice to read Susie's memoir causes confusion when listening to this episode. Then to make it worse, you used a female voice to read Toto's thoughts. WHY?!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

What's F1 losing without a great rivalry?
Q: What defines a true Formula 1 rivalry beyond a one-off conflict?
A true rivalry requires sustained, near-equal machinery, high-stakes competition across multiple races, and personal tensions that fuel ongoing narrative engagement for fans and media.
How have LGBTQ+ F1 fans made the sport their own?
Q: Which figures or drivers do queer fans gravitate toward as icons or allies?
Fans often rally around drivers who show personality and resilience, with Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton discussed as queer-coded figures in different ways, and Franco Colapinto highlighted for his flirtatious energy and public dating history as a potential queer-influencer.
How have LGBTQ+ F1 fans made the sport their own?
Q: What does queerness look like in F1, be it on the grid, in the fandom, or in content creation?
Queerness in F1 is more visible in the fandom and online communities than on the grid itself, with fans and creators driving the conversation, highlighting allyship, personal stories, and queer-coded moments that energize the fan base.
What exactly is the point of the Cadillac F1 team?
Q: So what did you learn about the Cadillac team from actually being in the garage and around the paddock with them for several days?
Madeline Coleman described extensive interviews, the inner workings of the engineering debriefs, and how Cadillac is navigating the early, growing pains of a new program while building up facilities and a team culture.
Why did F1 drivers go on strike in 1982?
Q: What made 1982 different in terms of driver power?
1982 featured a rare moment when a large portion of the grid united to challenge governance, signaling that drivers could exert real influence when risks and safety stakes were high, a dynamic less visible today due to sponsorship and structural changes.
