The hosts read stories from various newspapers in the UK for a particular date during the Second World War. It gives an interesting perspective on the war to hear how the events were presented to the British public and to hear about life on the home front. The talk between the hosts is also entertaining. It’s well worth a listen.
Poorly sourced, poorly narrated propaganda.
This is a superb way to look at the Second World War and how people experienced it from the bottom up. Andy and Merryn are first rate. If I had one minor criticism it would be their disciplined willingness to step around the rabbit holes they could so easily go down.
This is a great podcast which tells the story of the war by picking a random date and looking at the newspapers. Some lighthearted as well as the serious aspects. Highly recommend this.
Great pod from Andy and Merryn. If you loved the Lowlander podcast you will love this

A history-focused show that analyzes World War II headlines from newspapers and frontline updates, balancing grim wartime events with human-interest moments and occasional humor. The format tends to mix chronological WW2 coverage with thoughtful commentary from two regular hosts and occasional guests, making it a steady source for listeners who want accessible, narrative-driven wartime context and broader societal implications.
A standout element is the regular integration of primary-source material (maps, clippings, reader letters) with conversational ban... more
