Andy thinks ideas from Charles Taylor's recent works about resonance, poetry, and beauty can be found in the zombie show "The Last of Us". And it says a lot about what ministry looks like in a Secular Age.
Andy has returned from traveling abroad with news of a Quiet Revival happening in European churches. Andy and Derek discuss reasons for this and what it could mean for ministries in this secular age.
Andy discusses Charlie Kirk's death and how interpreting it is tied deeply to Charles Taylor's Triangle. Andy thinks this is not only helpful for those of us in ministry, but for society at large to break the cycle of ressentiment that perpetuates t... more
All churches need money to run. But sometimes Derek feels more like a small business owner than a pastor sometimes. Andy explains how money actually has more power than God in the Secular Age, but this gives churches an opportunity to talk about mo... more

I really like the way this podcast makes me think, without some of the fluff of other similar podcasts. It’s direct and honest and good for the soul. The one thing I *don’t* like about this podcast is the mention of Amazon at the end of every episode. Do you have a sponsorship deal? Surely this is one of the ways the church and the world isn’t working very well at the moment… Maybe this is something to discuss? :-)
Just found this podcast and am listening from the beginning. Love the content, but the differences in volumes makes it hard to listen to. Andrew’s voice is consistently quieter which makes it reeaallly hard to listen while mowing 🤣. Thanks for the content! Just fix the sound levels. The louder the better really.
Root brings us the stories and ideas that we need for these chaotic times. He gives the listener direct and concrete ways to rethink how we do church. I've bought three of Root’a books, and this podcast is an excellent addition to his written work.
This podcast with Andrew Root and Derek Tronsgard is eminently listenable. It is also hugely informative and very inspiring. So much of what they share makes sense in a way very little other theology or reflection does. It has helped me make sense of my own faith journey, as well as allowing deep reflection on my practise as a minister. This is for anyone interested in thinking about the Christian Faith or, actually, just being human in the21st century.
This podcast has a lot of great information that is relative to youth ministry. I love Andrew roots insights and reflections. However, they need a sound editor. Sound volume can go from 1 to a 10 within the span of a single sentence. Still worth your time, just have your hand near the volume to adjust as you go.
