Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

153: Overviewing the 2025 Alzheimer's Association's Blood-Based Biomarker Guidelines
Q: What is the education look like for these tests and kind of getting everybody on the same page?
Dr. Edelmayer discusses the importance of education and the development of clinical tools that support the understanding and use of blood biomarker tests in clinical settings.
152: Building Safer, Smarter, and More Personalized Epilepsy Care
Q: What are some things that we still don't have answers for that you'd like to see the clinical community spend more research time on?
We need to focus more on prevention in neurology, as currently, majority of funding is directed towards treating diseases rather than preventing them.
152: Building Safer, Smarter, and More Personalized Epilepsy Care
Q: Dr. Devinsky, you alluded to it at the beginning of our conversation about a lot of high-efficacy therapies, which it's been awesome to see these therapies come into the fold. But there's still that kind of caveat where, you know, patients kind of have to fail therapeutics to really get on some of the more higher efficacy therapeutics. Do you foresee this kind of approach changing a little bit in the coming future?
Unfortunately not as much as I would love it to. The approach is still fragmented, and patients often start with drugs like Leviteracetam which may not be the most effective option.
Special Episode: Understanding Fremanezumab's Expanded Indication in Pediatric Migraine
Q: Can you talk a little bit about just that study in general and just some of the major takeaways from a clinical perspective?
The trial was similar to adult trials, but we learned how to deal with unique challenges in pediatric participants, allowing us to gain experience in this field.
150: Rethinking Parkinson’s Care: Prevention, Equity, and Access to Treatment
Q: What other lessons from the global HIV drug distribution could be applied to ensure consistent and equitable access to levodopa worldwide?
It's not a one-size-fits-all approach. We need to work with individual countries to ensure access, affordability, and proper distribution of the medication.
