This could be such a great podcast if it weren’t for the rampant racism whining about the Trump Administration. Good gravy I get the administration is not perfect, but every freaking podcast is nothing about the parks, but how bad things are for them. Funny, because we’ve been to several in 2025 and they have never looked or been better! Maybe this podcast should be about how great our parks are regardless of who is in office.
I’ve always appreciated the podcast’s coverage of corners of the National Park Service that I might otherwise miss. But recently it has also become a fantastic source of information about how action on the federal level is affecting the NPS. The guests provide plain spoken, direct information and give you a great sense for what is happening. No euphemisms, no sugar coating. I’ve really appreciated the coverage, thank you.
Informative and eye opening information . Appreciate your frank discussions. Encourage everyone to listen
I really enjoy the work done here. Nice to have a source that doesn’t just cover the popular parks. I’ve learned a lot about how things work behind the scenes. I’ve enjoyed the many interviews with naturalists, rangers and park managers too.
Very informative, Kurt asks great questions and does great great research! Really interesting listening to Cam Sholly, so intelligent and honest about what is happening in Yellowstone, we need more leadership like his in this country!

A thoughtful, issue-driven show focused on national parks, conservation policy, interpretation, and the practical realities of park management. Episodes frequently feature park leaders, scientists, and NGO reps who dissect funding, policy changes, and on-the-ground impacts on visitors, wildlife, and ecosystems. Notable strengths include rigorous host-guest dialogue, data-backed discussions of timely topics (wildlife crossings, light pollution, coral restoration, visitor management), and a penchant for connecting public-interest history with current park operations. The format often blends expert perspectives with field reporting, making it valuable for listeners who want clear takeaways on how policy and science shape park experiences and p... more
