Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars from 13 ratings
  • This is a podcast—like an old time radio drama—as well as an anthology meant to be read.

The individual stories in this themed crime anthology were generally well-written. All produced clear suspects and the reader is invited to figure out whodunit. There is even a section toward the end of each story that encapsulates the clues as related to each suspect ("Deliberations") so the reader can Id who he or she thinks is the murderer. It was a lot of fun to read or to listen to.

  • Quirky and fun

What a blast! It’s like listening to an old-time radio show, with scene-setting music playing in the background while the actual author reads chapters from her book—how fun is that?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S9E5: Flat
Q: Who is ultimately revealed as the killer and what were the key connections that led to the reveal?
The killer is Desiree Normandy, whose actions were tied to the will changes and the looming legal dispute, and whose silence and strategic use of appearances connected her to the victim's death.
S9E2 Walking the Grain
Q: What is Walking the Grain, in practical terms, and how does it connect to the mystery?
Walking the grain refers to the dangerous practice of moving through a silo while grain shifts and can trap or bury a person; it becomes a metaphor for the hidden, dangerous dynamics inside the Brunner family and the way motive and opportunity are concealed within ordinary farm work.
S9E2 Walking the Grain
Q: All right, let's learn more about Walking the Grain. Tell me more about Marty Brunner.
Marty Brunner is portrayed as a gentle, intelligent farm heir who contrasts with his father's stern pragmatism; his demeanor suggests complexity and possible sympathy for Greg, indicating he might be involved more deeply in farm dynamics and family tensions that fuel motives.
