  • I'm a big video game nerd so this podcast is a dream come true. It's fun to hear about all the different video games I'll probably never have the time to play and how they've enriched the lives of the folks talking about them. And Simon is a pretty charming guy that I feel anybody would want to sit down and have a chinwag with. Well, that's not exactly true. I wouldn't want to sit down with him and have a chinwag because I'd have nothing of interest to say, so I wouldn't want to waste his time. ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Brendan Greene, game-maker (PUBG, Prologue: Go Wayback!)
Q: How did the switch from mod to a corporate collaboration with Sony/CH influence your approach to game design and monetization?
It validated the idea that a creator-driven project could reach a mass audience without losing its experimental core, and it taught me to balance creative freedom with practical production needs in a way that ultimately supports broader access and ongoing development.
Brendan Greene, game-maker (PUBG, Prologue: Go Wayback!)
Q: What drew you to DayZ and Arma 2 as pivotal turning points in your career?
DayZ revealed emergent gameplay on a scale that felt limitless, and Arma 2, with its realistic sandbox and modding ecosystem, showed how to build complex, community-driven experiences that could evolve into something bigger than the original game.
Brendan Greene, game-maker (PUBG, Prologue: Go Wayback!)
Q: Tell us why the 1990s-era mods and multi-user dungeons were your first real introduction to multiplayer gaming.
They showed me that you could experience other players in a shared space, which blew my mind and set me on a path toward creating emergent, connected experiences rather than isolated single-player stories.
Stephen Totilo, journalist, editor.
Q: You want to put on your ideal fictional games machine. You picked five absolute classics. But I have questions as well about some of your choices.
Stephen explains his rationale for a diverse mix of games, balancing artistic landmark titles with personal preservation goals and family considerations, and he clarifies how each pick reflects both his love for design and practical accessibility on a hypothetical machine.
Simon Lockerby, streamer, founder Fateless Games.
Q: When did you decide to leave Cisco to pursue YouTube and game development, and how did your family react?
I weighed the opportunity against stability, watched the YouTube growth accelerate, and used early revenue streams from services and streaming to bridge the transition; family reaction was mixed at first, with support growing as the venture proved sustainable and exciting for the future.
