I like MinnMax
I've been a listener and patreon supporter for several years now. I always look forward to the weekly episode, bonus podcast, and all the extra content that I can keep up with! Love the cohort structure, overall good vibes and tone, and energizing discussions about games and things happening in the industry.
The content might be interesting, but it’s almost impossible to get through an episode without losing count of how many times the hosts say “like.” We’re talking multiple times per sentence — “like, I think, like, the thing is, like…” It becomes so distracting that whatever point they’re trying to make gets completely buried. It’s a shame, because the topics seem worth exploring, but the constant verbal tics make the hosts sound inarticulate and unpolished. A few rounds of editing, or even just ... more
They know gaming very well but I find the vibe to be like an NPR show. I don’t mean to compare to other shows as these guys are genuinely good at what they do, but shows like Nextlander have very good information and also manage to feel lighter and more fun.
Ben Hanson is the best video game podcast host in the world. When he left game informer i wept. When he started minnmax i wept again. So glad to see him take a step forward to do his own thing. A panel-like discussion focused on the week's gaming news, releases, and industry dynamics, with a recurring emphasis on how live-service models, publisher strategies, and venture funding affect game development. Episodes blend hot takes on new reveals (from big-budget titles to indie demos), thoughts on Nintendo and console ecosystems, and personal anecdotes from a group of hosts with roots in a major game publication. The show often vacillates between sharp analysis and breezy banter, creating a cozy-but-insightful atmosphere that appeals to listeners who want thoughtful commentary about games as products, communities, and cultural moments. Noteworthy strengths include a wide rotating cast of perspectives, a willingness to critique indust... more
