Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

STARWALKER - Corey Payette Interview
Q: Tell us a little bit about the arc for you of a project you've been living with since 2019, is that correct, or maybe before of Starwalker?
Corey explains that the project developed from stage to screen, highlighting the move from a Vancouver stage premier to a broader film adaptation, and emphasizes the collaborative learning from prior work with the same production team to shape Starwalker for cinema.
FOSTER CHILD: ohpikihâkan awâsis - Coty Savard (producer) & Connor McNally (subtitle editor) Interview
Q: How did the restoration project approach language and community fit for Gil Cardinal's film?
The team conducted extensive research to determine the most appropriate Indigenous language for the film's return, including exploring Machif, Cree, and Metis identities, and ultimately used Cree syllabics to honor the filmmaker and his community.
THE HOCKEY PLAYER - Jacqueline Doorey Interview
Q: What challenges did you face when connecting with people in the league, and how did you approach those conversations?
There was some pushback from certain individuals, but we focused on allies and those who genuinely wanted to support Luke. We avoided voices who questioned the value of pride initiatives and instead highlighted people who could help move the narrative forward.
THE HOCKEY PLAYER - Jacqueline Doorey Interview
Q: Could you talk a little bit about the conception of the idea around the doc and what you believe the story to be?
The idea originated with our executive producer who saw Luke's story as a pivotal moment in hockey. The aim was to tell a human-centered story that could illuminate the experiences of queer athletes and spark conversation within the sport, rather than simply documenting events.
