  • Where is Jeremy?

Dear all. I don’t have Parkinson’s and I don’t know anyone with it. I just love listening to you all. But I’m worried that I haven’t heard Jeremy in months and months. I’m so hoping he’s ok.

  • Fascinating

Bravo. My Father was a Parky and, like most, I’ve known quite a few, including currently, married friends who have both developed it, which seems extra unfair. (On the plus side they did get to be extras in Mark’s film.)

So far so good for me, but depending on how the genetic dice falls my time could come, and I find the pod relatable, fascinating, jolly, and often moving.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Oral Health
Q: What does the health of our gums have to do with our brains?
There are three main pathways: bacteria in the mouth can enter the bloodstream; chronic inflammation from the gums can burden the body and potentially influence brain health; and the gut-brain axis can be affected by oral bacteria, creating a compound effect on neurodegenerative processes.
Paraquat
Q: So what does the company which first developed the Paraquat make of this?
Syngenta rejects the claims of a causal link between Paraquat and Parkinson's disease because it is not supported by scientific evidence.
Paraquat
Q: What do you think we should all be doing?
We should not be making Paraquat, which is banned in the UK, and distributed to the US.
Paraquat
Q: How are you admitting that we can't change things?
If we got it from Paraquat, we can ban it.
Exercise: the evidence
Q: Can exercise be prescribed in addition to medication?
Currently, neurologists do encourage exercise but often focus on medications during consultations; they emphasize the importance of enjoyable activities to promote ongoing exercise habits.
