Reviews

4.5 out of 5 stars from 14 ratings
  • Topic-based episodes are helpful

Newer listener and I’m assuming I’m skewing younger within the typical listener demographics.

I’m enjoying the podcast so far, especially that each episode is focused on specific topics vs a longer episode covering many things. This does clutter up my podcast feed a bit but I like that I can pick and choose the topics that I’m interested in. I appreciate having an English source of current news within Montreal that I don’t need to use tools to translate.

I gave 3 stars because the hosts seem... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Mennie: The utterly unsurprising lack of an English language debate
Q: Why is there not an English-language debate this cycle, and does it really matter to voters?
The guests argue that the absence is not catastrophic for voter understanding because much of the debate around policies will still be covered through other channels, and the overall format of these debates has become somewhat old-fashioned in the digital age.
What impact did hosting the Grand Prix in May have on Montreal tourism?
Q: What markets were most successful for Montreal this year, and how did that affect the city's tourism strategy?
Americans, Europeans, and Canadians all performed well, with an increased American presence and expanded European seats; this informed a broader, more diversified tourism strategy that emphasized multiple destinations and sustained occupancy.
What impact did hosting the Grand Prix in May have on Montreal tourism?
Q: Why was the Grand Prix moved to May, and how did the initiative perform overall?
The decision to move the Grand Prix to May was driven by a belief that the calendar would attract more visitors and reduce competition with other events; the results exceeded expectations with higher revenue, greater demand, and strong spillover into June.
A former Montrealer in Venezuela shares his story going through the major earthquakes
Q: Explain to us how close you were to the epicenter and what happened where you were.
I was on a 13th floor in Valencia, near my sister and father, and the tremor was so intense that we rushed to the terrace and into the stairwell, trying to keep safe as buildings around us shook and frames and the TV fell, while we worried about aftershocks and whether our building would hold.
Reid: I think the CAQ might just pull it off
Q: Who's going to win the election in October in Quebec?
The guest shifts from uncertainty to a cautious prediction that the CAQ might win, citing polling signals and campaign dynamics, though he notes risks and the liberal vote could collapse.
