Reviews

4.5 out of 5 stars from 14 ratings
  • Topic-based episodes are helpful

Newer listener and I’m assuming I’m skewing younger within the typical listener demographics.

I’m enjoying the podcast so far, especially that each episode is focused on specific topics vs a longer episode covering many things. This does clutter up my podcast feed a bit but I like that I can pick and choose the topics that I’m interested in. I appreciate having an English source of current news within Montreal that I don’t need to use tools to translate.

I gave 3 stars because the hosts seem... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Business Brief: Economy adds 88,000 jobs and the unemployment rate falls to 6.6%
Q: Last thing I would ask, we talked about these big hyperscalers and AI, what do you think about the government's AI plan and its realistic impact on jobs and growth?
Amanda expresses cautious optimism about the focus on business adoption and productivity, notes Canada is behind other nations in AI, and emphasizes the need for domestic innovation and safeguarding while questioning how quickly details will be implemented.
Business Brief: Economy adds 88,000 jobs and the unemployment rate falls to 6.6%
Q: My question, Amanda, very simply to you is, what's going on?
Amanda explains that while the May jobs data was solid, it raises the possibility of higher interest rates from the Fed (and by implication Canada) if inflation persists, which can negatively impact stocks in the near term.
Having trouble finding housing in Montreal for July 1? Here's what you need to know
Q: What should someone do first if they can't find a new place?
Call the Housing Search Assistance Service run by the municipal housing office, contact Montreal at 311 for referrals, and explore social housing and emergency help as needed.
Conservative leader Eric Duhaime discusses the party’s opposition to the energy drinks ban
Q: What is your stance on extending Bill 101 to adult education and vocational courses if the Liberals push for it?
We support promoting French education but oppose depriving adults of the right to choose whether to study in French or English higher education, arguing that incentives should exist without removing choice, and we are not sure there will be time to vote on the bill.
Report says Canadian vineyards have untapped potential. Which local wines should you be looking at?
Q: Do you think they're worth drinking? Is the Canadian wine making industry mature enough now to give us good quality?
Yes, the industry is evolving, confident in its identity, and can compete in quality with some European regions; better access to Canadian wines would enhance consumer choice and support local producers.
