  • Good for general overview but one moderator lacks depth

The main reason I listen to this is to get the general overview on as many topics as possible. What puts me off is that one moderator comes across as naive or is out of her depth even as she seeks to lead guests down her fixed political line. Aside from that, I like the range.

  • Required listening

I listen everyday. Monocle is lifeblood. Georgina Godwin is easily the most underrated and greatest host of all time.

Andrew Mueller is also extremely good!

  • Good but also buys the pitch

While this podcast’s team does bring some excellent guests to cover a wide spectrum of topics, they repeat some of the political rhetoric and terminology spewed by certain segments of the political right. If the producers could fix that, The Globalist would make for a more balanced listen.

  • Subpar

Unfortunately there is no escape from biased news reporting. I listen to get a full spectrum view of global news, but it can be challenging at times to get through. Some of the segments have blatant bias in commentary, where reporters put zero to nil effort in substantiating the premises, and just assume the audience will accept their position without question. The host does a better job of masking her leaning on events, which I appreciate

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Can Andy Burnham make Manchester a global diplomatic hub?
Q: How could a northern base change the UK's political and economic landscape?
A shift of political power north, with a number 10 North concept and cabinet presence in the North, could redistribute decision-making, spur regional growth, and recalibrate national governance dynamics.
Can Andy Burnham make Manchester a global diplomatic hub?
Q: What makes Manchester a compelling candidate to become a global hub beyond its historical ties to industry?
The city's rapid transformation, strong education and international connectivity, plus deliberate devolution and inward investment strategies are highlighted as key factors that could elevate Manchester to a global stage.
Why are India’s ‘cockroach’ protests proving such a threat to Narendra Modi?
Q: How did a joke turn into a mass movement involving millions of students?
A Facebook/online meme and a growing sense of frustration over jobs, corruption, and blocked opportunities mobilized students, sparking demonstrations across Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and other cities; authorities' response and the NEET exam scandal amplified the momentum.
Ukraine tackles Patriot missiles and Asean talks Myanmar’s civil war
Q: Jacob, let me ask you in terms of Ukraine, just how strong will being able to produce Patriot missiles make Ukraine and is it even feasible in the short term that they'll be able to avail of the missiles they'll produce?
In the short term, it isn't feasible due to production time and lack of Ukraine-based tooling, but there is hope Ukraine can source from allies and potentially accelerate some components, though substantial challenges remain.
Nato’s summit kicks off in Ankara
Q: How might NATO's reliance on the US funding model change in the coming years?
The discussion suggests Europe is trying to shoulder more defense responsibility, with new funding mechanisms and increased spending, but real shifts depend on political will and effective procurement across EU members.
