  • Good for general overview but one moderator lacks depth

The main reason I listen to this is to get the general overview on as many topics as possible. What puts me off is that one moderator comes across as naive or is out of her depth even as she seeks to lead guests down her fixed political line. Aside from that, I like the range.

  • Required listening

I listen everyday. Monocle is lifeblood. Georgina Godwin is easily the most underrated and greatest host of all time.

Andrew Mueller is also extremely good!

  • Good but also buys the pitch

While this podcast’s team does bring some excellent guests to cover a wide spectrum of topics, they repeat some of the political rhetoric and terminology spewed by certain segments of the political right. If the producers could fix that, The Globalist would make for a more balanced listen.

  • Subpar

Unfortunately there is no escape from biased news reporting. I listen to get a full spectrum view of global news, but it can be challenging at times to get through. Some of the segments have blatant bias in commentary, where reporters put zero to nil effort in substantiating the premises, and just assume the audience will accept their position without question. The host does a better job of masking her leaning on events, which I appreciate

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EU engagement with Taliban draws scrutiny following Brussels meeting
Q: Why has the EU decided it needs direct talks with the Taliban now?
The EU faces pressure from member states to formulate a returns policy for asylum seekers, and the dialogue is presented as a technical, informal engagement rather than formal recognition, reflecting a pragmatic approach amid human rights concerns.
What’s next for Colombia, as far-right Abelardo De La Espriella wins the presidential election?
Q: Tell us more about the wider context of Latin America and the fact that we have de la Spriella modeling himself on two leaders.
Oscar Guardiola Rivera explains that Latin America has seen a surge of charismatic, populist leadership across the region, drawing comparisons to Trump, Bukele, and others, while warning that electoral rhetoric can mask underlying economic and social fragility.
Trump says that a deal with Iran has been signed on the US side as questions swirl at G7
Q: What is the nature of the Iran-US agreement and what are the immediate steps agreed?
The agreement is framed as a 60-day ceasefire intended to pause fighting and open negotiations for a longer-term peace, with immediate steps including allowing Hormuz Strait passage and removing mines to enable shipping.
Trump vows revenge for downed helicopter and talk delays: is the ceasefire over?
Q: What is the status of the ceasefire and what happened overnight?
There have been fresh US missile strikes on Iranian targets, casting doubt on the ceasefire's viability and suggesting that negotiations are in a delicate, uncertain phase.
Can Europe build a stronger defence industry after its flagship military aviation project is abandoned?
Q: What was the ambition for the project, though? What were they actually making?
It aimed to create a common combat aircraft platform with integrated software and modularity to adapt to future warfare, uniting multiple European manufacturers behind a single design.
