  • Good for general overview but one moderator lacks depth

The main reason I listen to this is to get the general overview on as many topics as possible. What puts me off is that one moderator comes across as naive or is out of her depth even as she seeks to lead guests down her fixed political line. Aside from that, I like the range.

  • Required listening

I listen everyday. Monocle is lifeblood. Georgina Godwin is easily the most underrated and greatest host of all time.

Andrew Mueller is also extremely good!

  • Good but also buys the pitch

While this podcast’s team does bring some excellent guests to cover a wide spectrum of topics, they repeat some of the political rhetoric and terminology spewed by certain segments of the political right. If the producers could fix that, The Globalist would make for a more balanced listen.

  • Subpar

Unfortunately there is no escape from biased news reporting. I listen to get a full spectrum view of global news, but it can be challenging at times to get through. Some of the segments have blatant bias in commentary, where reporters put zero to nil effort in substantiating the premises, and just assume the audience will accept their position without question. The host does a better job of masking her leaning on events, which I appreciate

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Israel bombs Lebanon as ‘ceasefire’ extension is discussed in Washington
Q: What is the nature of the ceasefire announced between Israel and Lebanon?
It is described as an agreement to implement a ceasefire contingent on Hezbollah stopping attacks and withdrawing from the south, with the Lebanese state and Hezbollah lacking clear leverage and no public Hezbollah confirmation.
Is Russia preparing a major attack on Ukraine? Will Ukraine call their bluff?
Q: Jenny, what kind of reshifting is that shifting in terms of the tone of its message?
Jenny explains that Russia's escalation reflects frustration over battlefield gains, domestic economic pressures, and a strategic recalibration to frame the war in moral terms while pressuring the international community.
Why China is engaging rival powers as it hosts Putin
Q: Well, Jenny, to bring you in on one comment there from Isabel about Russia, China not being able to afford Russia losing in Ukraine. What does that imply for the calculus of the visit?
This implies China will likely tread carefully, supporting Russia where it aligns with China's interests but avoiding actions that could push Moscow into a crisis it cannot weather, potentially positioning itself as a mediator rather than a direct military ally in the war.
Why China is engaging rival powers as it hosts Putin
Q: Great to have you both on for the dueling perspectives. And Jenny, I'm going to start with you. What do we know from these early stretches of Vladimir Putin's goals from this meeting?
Jenny argues Putin is presenting an image of equal partnership, while the practical aim is to secure energy and political support from China without provoking a major rift with the West. The discussion also notes Russia's dependence on Chinese markets and technology as sanctions bite, and highlights the careful balancing act Beijing faces between backing Moscow and avoiding further escalation.
Modi eyes more defense deals and strengthened India-EU trade amid five-nation tour
Q: Lindy, why is Modi making this significant tour now, and why to these particular countries?
The tour is positioned as a response to India's turbulence and energy concerns, with opportunities for deeper Nordic and European collaboration, potential manufacturing and tech partnerships, and strategic diversification away from heavy reliance on any single ally.
