  • Good for general overview but one moderator lacks depth

The main reason I listen to this is to get the general overview on as many topics as possible. What puts me off is that one moderator comes across as naive or is out of her depth even as she seeks to lead guests down her fixed political line. Aside from that, I like the range.

  • Required listening

I listen everyday. Monocle is lifeblood. Georgina Godwin is easily the most underrated and greatest host of all time.

Andrew Mueller is also extremely good!

  • Good but also buys the pitch

While this podcast’s team does bring some excellent guests to cover a wide spectrum of topics, they repeat some of the political rhetoric and terminology spewed by certain segments of the political right. If the producers could fix that, The Globalist would make for a more balanced listen.

  • Subpar

Unfortunately there is no escape from biased news reporting. I listen to get a full spectrum view of global news, but it can be challenging at times to get through. Some of the segments have blatant bias in commentary, where reporters put zero to nil effort in substantiating the premises, and just assume the audience will accept their position without question. The host does a better job of masking her leaning on events, which I appreciate

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Will Japan’s Sanae Takaichi stand up to the US?
Q: Given the constraints, what recourse does Japan realistically have to protect its security interests in the region?
Japan has limited options, mainly diplomatic lobbying with the Trump administration and working with allies to reduce friction, while gradually building up its own capabilities and regional partnerships to reduce over-reliance on the US.
Will Japan’s Sanae Takaichi stand up to the US?
Q: What does it mean in terms of real politic when Japan's prime minister described the sanctions as very unfortunate?
It signals a measured, cautious posture from Japan, acknowledging concern while avoiding overt confrontation, and it frames potential avenues to lobby the US while maintaining the broader alliance path.
Are Sino-Japanese relations thawing as the US pulls back from Asia?
Q: Is there any chance of a reprieve before September 8th in the Canada-US tariff battle?
Analyst expectations suggest a possible reprieve given President Trump's unpredictable policy, but both sides appear prepared for ongoing tensions and rounds of negotiations.
Live from Zürich with Tyler Brûlé: Why does Switzerland’s immigration rate keep tumbling?
Q: Robert, what would it take for North Korea and South Korea to break the cycle of stalemate and engage in talks?
The guest suggests a combination of concessions, confidence-building steps, and a change in regional security dynamics, but historical experience shows North Korea's promises are hard to verify and unlikely to yield immediate breakthroughs.
Live from Zürich with Tyler Brûlé: Why does Switzerland’s immigration rate keep tumbling?
Q: Latika, given what you've said about China's approach to Taiwan, how likely is a kinetic conflict in the near term?
The guest argues that while Beijing signals pressure, the PLA's readiness remains constrained and domestic political calculations, plus the involvement of the US and its allies, make a rapid invasion unlikely in the near term; long-term risk remains, but coordination and deterrence matter.
