Nice insight, great context, I listen often. Nasal congestion is distracting. I too have chronic allergies.

  • Denmark Groover and history

A thought provoking episode, and it leaves me with the same unanswered question I have been asking myself about George Wallace over the years. As each went from racist opinions to much more moderate views, did either have a true change of heart over time, or did they merely reflect the politics of the day? Consider it an unsolved mystery for psychologists and historians.

Chinese Premier Zhao Ziyang speaks with Meet the Press (Sept. 27, 1987)
Q: What is the guiding principle behind reform in China according to Premier Zhao?
Reform and opening to the outside world are essential for China's development and should proceed without altering the socialist system or core leadership, ensuring stability while pursuing economic modernization.
James Comey on Trump, Hillary Clinton and the FBI (April 29, 2018)
Q: Do you believe Mueller is mindful of the political calendar as he goes through, and that the closer things get to an election, the more investigations can play an outsized role, fair or unfair?
Comey responds that Mueller is mindful of the calendar, but the exact reasoning and timing are best left to the investigators and lawyers involved, emphasizing the need for balancing process with the pursuit of truth.
NYC Mayor John Lindsay on his party switch and presidential run (Feb. 13, 1972)
Q: What qualities do you think you have that the other Democratic candidates who have been in the party for so much longer do not have?
He emphasizes his urban governance experience, reform-minded approach, and accessibility to ordinary voters as distinctive strengths.
NYC Mayor John Lindsay on his party switch and presidential run (Feb. 13, 1972)
Q: Mayor Lindsay, as a very new member of the Democratic Party, would it not be more seemly of you to allow the nomination to go to one of the older hands who have been working in and for the party for many years?
Lindsay argues that the party should open its system to fresh voices and that the operating level of leadership, not party clubs, should guide national policy.
VP Gerald Ford on Watergate and the 1973 oil crisis (Jan. 6, 1974)
Q: What are your views on impeachment, given the current evidence and constitutional definitions?
Ford argues there is no current evidence that meets the constitutional standard for impeachment against the President and that party considerations should not override substantive legal criteria.
