  • Amazing Stuff

I am a founder and have been running a startup since a year now. I was always curious to understand VCs/Investor’s perspective. This is a great podcast which provides complete context on overall VC perspectives and what are the things to focus, avoid as an early founders. Specially liked the Tarun’s episode on referencing. This was aired right around the same time when I was looking for a cofounder. That episode has really helped a lot. Thanks much for doing this.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

256: How the Ex-Unacademy COO built an edtech solving India's healthcare skills gap | Vivek Sinha
Q: As a student, should I drop out to work full time on my startup?
For most people, the answer is no; there are many who succeed after finishing college, and networking plus practical experience in college can be invaluable. Dropping out should only be pursued with a compelling, well-planned reason and a very strong product-market fit.
255: From PhD to 26 FDA Clearances: Building AI in Healthcare | Prashant Warrier
Q: How would you assess timing and market readiness for a hospital-focused AI solution, especially in rapidly evolving tech spaces?
The guest emphasizes that iterative testing in real clinical settings is crucial, and while innovation often aims to create a new market, success requires deep domain integration, FDA clearance, and a scalable workflow that fits hospital processes; external validation and regulatory milestones are key signals of product-market fit.
255: From PhD to 26 FDA Clearances: Building AI in Healthcare | Prashant Warrier
Q: Hi, my question is, how do you land up on the unique problem that you decide to solve for? Is it passion, market gap, or a mix of both?
The founder describes a mixed origin: initial curiosity driven by personal expertise and passion in AI, combined with an opportunity identified through real-world testing, customer feedback, and the need to solve a practical bottleneck in imaging workflows, which gradually highlighted scalable use cases like TB screening and early lung cancer detection.
253: The Harvard Grad who quit her job to build a deodorant for women | CEO, Laani | Unstarted
Q: Hi. My question is, how do you land up on the unique problem that you decide to solve for? Is it just passion? Is it market gap or is it a mix of both?
The signal is a mix of lived experience and market gaps, with the emphasis on validating the market need before over-promising. Passion helps during tough times, but clear market demand and real user validation drive long-term viability.
241: How 3 IIT engineers built one of India's biggest beauty brands | Manish Taneja | Unstarted
Q: What was your approach to growth and capital—balancing profitability with scaling?
We prioritized a balanced growth approach, focusing on unit economics and disciplined investment, rather than chasing rapid expansion or unicorn valuations; staying frugal and sustainable helped us withstand market cycles.
