Reviews

4.1 out of 5 stars from 26 ratings
  • Not great.

Tried this as it seemed like an interesting approach to the topic. I found the main presenter’s political biases frequently got in the way of any useful information. He and several of the guests seem to be out of touch with reality, as philosophers frequently are, and misrepresented entire genres of people and facts. I was also frustrated by the poor audio quality.

Self-Defense, Power and the Epistemology of Ignorance, by Dr Peter Katz (California Northstate University)
Q: What do you mean by the term real violence?
This wording was a rhetorical misstep; the focus should be on the overlaps between different forms of violence rather than defining them in a hierarchical way.
Self-Defense, Power and the Epistemology of Ignorance, by Dr Peter Katz (California Northstate University)
Q: Can the paradox be resolved, or is there a way to go forward with it?
The paradox is productive for the dispositif of protecting the bourgeois man and doesn't really want to be resolved; it's meant to maintain the illusion of self-defense and the necessity of it.
On Movement Inspired by Martial Arts, by Dr George Jennings (Cardiff Met)
Q: Is there some sort of Confucianism within what you're teaching?
I haven’t focused on Confucianism per se, but I do draw on the importance of respecting one’s health for the sake of ancestors and family.
On Movement Inspired by Martial Arts, by Dr George Jennings (Cardiff Met)
Q: Are you going to change the pedagogy a little bit for these sessions?
Definitely, there's potential to build a sequence of activities tailored to health, integrating movements intended for a broader range of people.
On Movement Inspired by Martial Arts, by Dr George Jennings (Cardiff Met)
Q: How does this work without going against the ethical thing?
I can use personal communication as a referencing style without attributing comments to specific individuals, allowing me to gather feedback generically.
