  • Decent Pod

Great guests and good insights. Dan asks brill questions but with more prep and focus the conversations would be even better. The conversational balance really needs to be weighted more to the guest. Maybe even a tighter edit would improve that. Overall decent little pod! Thanks guys.

  • Awesome business podcast

I stumbled across this podcast looking for an interview from the chefs at Fallow, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Dan’s interviewed a remarkable array of business owners, and his casual style lends itself to making his guests seem natural and relaxed. This podcast is worth listening to even if you’re not in the restaurant industry. There’s a lot of good lessons about branding, marketing, and the struggles of being a founder.

The £100,000-a-Week Restaurant Built From the Ingredient Every Chef Throws Away
Q: Why did you choose to market the brand instead of just marketing products?
We found that focusing on the overall brand—quality, hospitality, and consistency—gave customers confidence in what they would experience, not just a single dish. This approach helped us stay true to our core principles while still leveraging social media for storytelling.
The £100,000-a-Week Restaurant Built From the Ingredient Every Chef Throws Away
Q: How did you attract early customers in Kingston and build initial momentum?
We leaned on live sampling, familiar markets, and a friendly, family-style service to get people to try the food. Open daily, with consistent hosting and in-person interactions, created a loyal early following that spread by word of mouth.
Ravneet Gill: How To Successfully Open a Restaurant in 2026, Kitchen Bullying, David Blaine PR Stunts, Loving Horrific Customer Complaints
Q: What have you learned about leadership from the kitchen environment?
Leadership in a kitchen requires balancing firmness and empathy, understanding that people bring baggage, and creating a supportive culture that fosters learning from feedback rather than punishing mistakes.
Ravneet Gill: How To Successfully Open a Restaurant in 2026, Kitchen Bullying, David Blaine PR Stunts, Loving Horrific Customer Complaints
Q: How did you handle the David Blaine PR moment?
It started as a light joke on social media, which unexpectedly gained real traction and press coverage; the lesson was that authentic, bold storytelling—when grounded in reality—can amplify reach, but you must be prepared for the consequences and manage ongoing narrative.
Ivan Ramen: New York's Best Ramen Restaurant, Conquering Tokyo, Heartbreak, Japanese Literature & Art
Q: How do you balance artistry with business needs in a high-stakes restaurant environment?
By planning thoroughly, creating repeatable systems, and ensuring every location can deliver a consistent product and experience. He argues that money and sustainability are central to any creative venture, and you can't rely on a single dish or moment of inspiration to fuel growth.
