Knowing Sondheim only by his music and lyrics feels like only a paint-by-number painting, after listening to this engaging and illuminating story of Stephen Sondheim the man. Simply a delightful series that adds to the complete painting of the enigmatic composer and lyricist! So many talents and friends created this tribute to one of Broadway's brightest lights.
Loved every second, I’m listening again. So many wonderful insights. I do hope there’ll be more in the future: I’d love to hear from people like Bernadette Peters, Cameron Mackintosh, Nathan Lane, Steve Reich, Michael Starobin, David Ives, Imelda Staunton, Jason Robert Browne, Paul Gemignani…
Generous and deeply enjoyable, this podcast is a much needed counterpoint to the dark and ‘glass-half-empty’ recent book by Daniel Ockrent. Sondheim’s acolytes needed, and are so blessed, to have this charming and sincere invitation into the inner sanctum. Loving, indeed.
I usually don’t write reviews, but I had to take a moment to thank you for sharing your wonderful stories on the podcast. It’s so nice to hear about the real person behind the persona. You were so lucky to spend time with him, and he with you. Thank you!
This marvelous podcast is a gift to all Sondheim fans….thank you so very much, Martin & Peter!!
