  • Not Every Venue is Beautiful

Longtime listener, first time reviewer. I usually listen to the podcast using a different app, but I specifically logged in to Apple Podcasts today to clear something up. When talking about touring on the podcast, Mike often praises the venues. It may seem that he says every theatre is beautiful and so the compliment doesn’t mean anything - but not so! I once saw Mike perform in Calgary, Alberta in the MacEwan Student Centre - a horrible venue, a fact that Mike pointed out multiple times through... more

  • Required Listening for Comedians

I truly cannot pick a favorite episode, because I feel like I learn something from all of them. It’s also so inspiring, whenever I have some writer’s block, I’ll listen to an episode and it will help me work through it. Ohhh, so I’m also working it out. Thank you, Mike and team! So appreciate you!

  • Such a great podcast

Mike Berbigs is (a) such a great guy who (b) of you haven't seen his filmed shows you need to stop what you're doing now and go watch them (you can thank me later) and (c) is so well respected and within the entertainment industry that he's able to talk honestly with other comedians and entertainers. He's an alchemist who is able to take a podcast and make it a safe space for both the person he's interviewing and the listener.

  • Recommend by Enemy

2 years ago my mortal nemesis and I were feuding like we always are and out of nowhere he recommended this podcast. 2 years later and I have listened to every episode. I had seen all of Mikes’s standup and have really enjoyed this podcast. It introducing me to Chris Fleming and I cannot thank it enough for that.

Ps to all guests: If you tell Mike the most traumatic experience of your life it will surely be met with “you have to do that on stage.”

216. Wanda Sykes: Mike's Dream Guest
Q: How did you end up on Curb Your Enthusiasm and work with Larry David?
I was auditioning through a connection with a producer who knew Larry; it started as an audition arranged through a car dealership shoot, and my role expanded after that initial moment.
Jenny Slate: Unafraid of Sadness
Q: How has your approach to material changed after experiences like being fired from SNL?
Slate explains that the experience pushed her toward authenticity and allowed her to find a more personal, spontaneous voice in her performances, rather than trying to conform to a pre-written script.
211. Nish Kumar Returns: Dinosaurs Before the Meteor
Q: What role does humility play in a comedian's career according to the discussion?
Both hosts agreed that staying humble is essential to avoid narcissism and to keep evolving as a performer, especially as success rises and the risk of resting on laurels increases.
211. Nish Kumar Returns: Dinosaurs Before the Meteor
Q: How did Nish approach naming his show and what themes did he want to explore there?
Nish described wanting to do stand-up about unfunny topics, and he emphasized the process of balancing humor with serious social and political themes, often inspired by the legacy of edgy, boundary-pushing material from predecessors like HBO specials.
209. Jorma Taccone Returns: This Episode Sucks
Q: What is a day in the life of a film director like?
It varies by project, but typically involves prep (shot lists, location scouting), collaboration with the DP, and adjusting on the fly during filming to keep the scene agile while maintaining overall vision.
