  • Good but lacks key information

I’ve listened to many episodes but key financial aspects totally ignored. How much did the visa process cost and how long did it take? How did you handle and how much did it cost to file US taxes as well as taxes in your new country? Did you learn the language of your new country and if so did it cost anything? The time spent discussing grocery costs, entertainment costs, restaurant costs is largely meaningless given the range of people’s wants and variability of choices.

  • Priceless Information and inspiration

Your post cast has been truly inspiring and life changing. I’m on my next life journey selling everything I have. My house cars and worldly possessions and purchasing land and a condo to live in. Beautiful Beliez is my new home.

Thanks Adventure Freaksss, the post cast is where I found my Realtor in Belize. She helped me with my land purchase. 💕

  • Really interesting expat podcast!

I really enjoy these interviews; the host asks good questions but doesn’t dominate the conversation. I listen to a lot of digital nomad/expat/remote work podcasts, and I really enjoy that this one covers more “undiscovered” locations and really inexpensive places to live. The host really dives into the details of visas, renting a place to live, etc. Great resource for anyone thinking of moving abroad!!

I love your show. It inspires me for when I plan on moving abroad in 6 years or so! I always get excited to hear your new episodes. You focus on the questions I want to know most. What is the cost of living and breakdown.

He Was Bored in U.S. Retirement — So He Moved to Thailand and Never Went Back
Q: Is healthcare affordable for expats in Thailand?
Healthcare is affordable with a mix of public and private options; private hospitals are more expensive but English-speaking doctors are common, and there are reputable insurance options, though pre-existing conditions may not be covered; overall costs are often lower than in the U.S., especially for routine care.
He Was Bored in U.S. Retirement — So He Moved to Thailand and Never Went Back
Q: How do visa options work for retirees moving to Thailand?
There are multiple paths: you can start with depositing 800,000 baht and getting an O visa with a one-year extension, or use an income method requiring about 65,000 baht per month as proof of income; visa agents can simplify the process but come with fees and potential limitations.
He Was Bored in U.S. Retirement — So He Moved to Thailand and Never Went Back
Q: Was there any particular reason why you left America?
Yes. I was bored with America after nine decades and years of work and travel; moving to Thailand represented a fresh opportunity and freedom that felt exciting rather than simply a financial necessity.
Honest View on China After 15 Years - American Raising His Family There (Won't Leave)
Q: Are there any concerns about safety or privacy living in China?
Ben emphasizes overall safety and hospitality but notes privacy trade-offs, with many cameras and a more centralized system; he also points out that locals are curious and that safety benefits often outweigh privacy concerns for expats.
Honest View on China After 15 Years - American Raising His Family There (Won't Leave)
Q: Do you know if there's a retirement visa offered?
He indicates there is no dedicated retirement visa in China; some retirees stay on tourist visas with periodic visa runs, which is less stable but cheaper, unlike retirement visas found in some other countries.
