  • Loving these bike pack episodes

Ep 151 Sometimes things don’t go the way we planned.

Lots of great stuff here but this episode really spoke to me. I use to hike a lot until my knee just got to painful to do descents. I got into bike packing and discovered outdoor vitals. The loftek jacket won me over, then the sleeping bag then the altitude hoody now I am all in getting my whole layering system through outdoor. I ride a drop bar mtb with 2.6” tires and have a dual suspension gravel bike and for my road centric I have a all r... more

  • Always entertaining, and I learn something new.

Always a good listen, very informative and entertaining for sure. Their most recent pod cast about Hiking 20 miles a day was loaded with great tips on how to hike further. For the experienced hikers I’m sure there are a few things they can take that will help add a few extra miles onto their daily hike. And for the beginner and intermediate hikers this is loaded with great information. I will be definitely adding some of Outdoor Vitals strategies to go extra miles on my next hike. The idea about... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EP 183 - Ask OV 2: Dying Fastpacks, My Big 3, & Upcoming Trips & Trails
Q: How does the FastPak compare with other packs for longer trips?
The FastPak is optimized for lightweight, nimble use over two to three nights. It can be used for longer trips but requires careful packing and is less suited for heavy conditions or bulky gear.
EP 183 - Ask OV 2: Dying Fastpacks, My Big 3, & Upcoming Trips & Trails
Q: What were your big three on your most recent backpacking trip, and why did you choose these?
For my last trip, I used a hunting pack, a prototype tent, and a sleeping bag. In snow with temperatures from single digits to the low twenties, I would have taken a CS40, the same tent, and a 15-degree top quilt for warmth.
EP 182 - Ask OV: Waterproofing Backpacks, Discontinued Gear, & Why Use Trekking Poles
Q: Can you seam seal the CS40?
Yes, it can be seam sealed from the outside using a product like AquaSeal; however, note that it may not last as long due to wear and tear from usage.
EP 182 - Ask OV: Waterproofing Backpacks, Discontinued Gear, & Why Use Trekking Poles
Q: Why don't you make or include rain covers for backpacks?
Rain covers have limited utility on active hikes, can catch on debris, and weigh down backpacks; our packs are designed to minimize water ingress effectively without them.
EP 182 - Ask OV: Waterproofing Backpacks, Discontinued Gear, & Why Use Trekking Poles
Q: What are the deciding factors to discontinue a product?
Discontinuation can be based on product evolution to better alternatives, financial decisions regarding sales velocity, or company branding shifts.
