  • Loving these bike pack episodes

Ep 151 Sometimes things don’t go the way we planned.

Lots of great stuff here but this episode really spoke to me. I use to hike a lot until my knee just got to painful to do descents. I got into bike packing and discovered outdoor vitals. The loftek jacket won me over, then the sleeping bag then the altitude hoody now I am all in getting my whole layering system through outdoor. I ride a drop bar mtb with 2.6” tires and have a dual suspension gravel bike and for my road centric I have a all r... more

  • Always entertaining, and I learn something new.

Always a good listen, very informative and entertaining for sure. Their most recent pod cast about Hiking 20 miles a day was loaded with great tips on how to hike further. For the experienced hikers I’m sure there are a few things they can take that will help add a few extra miles onto their daily hike. And for the beginner and intermediate hikers this is loaded with great information. I will be definitely adding some of Outdoor Vitals strategies to go extra miles on my next hike. The idea about... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EP 201 - Cirq Trekking Pole Tent: Product Deep Dive
Q: Why not use 100% polyester fabric instead of nylon with polyester yarns?
Polyester alone is not as strong as nylon; by combining polyester yarns with nylon, they gain reduced stretch and moisture-related sag while preserving tear strength and keeping weight down.
EP 201 - Cirq Trekking Pole Tent: Product Deep Dive
Q: What inspired the development of this new tent.
The team wanted to improve overall livability, ease of setup, and stormworthiness in trekking-pole tents, addressing common pain points like condensation, space constraints, and the fiddly setup process, while maintaining light weight.
EP 198: Ask OV 9 - Ultralight For Performance, Not To Chase A Number...
Q: Any info on how to know when to replace a piece of gear versus getting it professionally cleaned or doing it yourself?
Replace gear when it can no longer perform its intended function; cleaning is often sufficient unless there's a full failure.
EP 198: Ask OV 9 - Ultralight For Performance, Not To Chase A Number...
Q: Have you experimented with using something like Brigham mesh base layers with the Skyline joggers or other gear to see how they manage sweat together and running at or below freezing?
Yes, I have used mesh base layers with Skyline joggers, and they perform well for managing heat and comfort.
EP 198: Ask OV 9 - Ultralight For Performance, Not To Chase A Number...
Q: What is the best offline map that you recommend?
The most reliable map option is Garmin as it provides accurate and reliable mapping.
