  • Don’t miss this top DTC pod!

Hands down - the top DTC pod for proven sales and marketing execution advice and strategies given with impeccable detail, backed by Nik’s direct experience with brands across multiple segments. As a traditional retail-experienced brand founder and operator who is new to DTC, I feel emboldened and better prepared to take my DTC brand from 0-1 by being a regular listener to Nik and Limited Supply.

  • Lack of research by hosts

I know this podcast is geared towards DTC mostly, but their discussion on Faire last year missed the mark. They seemed surprised by standard wholesale practices like offering products at keystone pricing (50% off), which is very typical and not some shocking discount. From my experience managing multiple brands on the platform, you can select who you sell to and are less likely to deal with the whole Amazon situation they were describing. Overall, the episode felt under-researched.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S16 E5: What $100M E-Commerce Brands Know That The Others Don’t
Q: How should a founder think about partnerships and brand-building activities vs. direct performance marketing?
Partnerships can be a long-tail, brand-building investment that opens doors and access, but should be balanced with disciplined performance marketing and a plan to monetize the access they generate over time.
S16 E5: What $100M E-Commerce Brands Know That The Others Don’t
Q: What differentiates brands that hit $100 million from those that stall, especially in product strategy and team composition?
A combination of product-market fit at scale, smart hiring of experienced teams early on, and continuous product innovation; brands that stall often reach a product ceiling and fail to expand beyond it.
S16 E2: How to Break Through Your Next Growth Ceiling
Q: With all the AI tools, when should a brand automate with a software like Clod/Claudebot versus building or buying a custom solution?
Use open platforms and APIs to bridge brands into AI workflows, but also recognize the value of having a service/component you can rely on; many brands will start with outsourcing and then gradually bring capability in-house via APIs as needed.
S16 E2: How to Break Through Your Next Growth Ceiling
Q: What about landing pages—should they send to the PDP or a lander similar to the ad, and when is a landing page preferable to direct PDP traffic?
Test everything across the board—homepages, collections, PDPs, and various landing pages like advertorials or listicles—because different audiences respond to different formats; some audiences prefer deeper options, others respond to quick proof points in a listicle.
S16 E2: How to Break Through Your Next Growth Ceiling
Q: So let's start with a lot of brands in this room doing between 5 and 20 million. And they want to understand how to get to 50 or 100 million. What's the number one execution trap that kills momentum after their first few wins?
The trap is continuing to push the same playbook without strengthening the rest of the platform—retention, web experience, and merchandising—while also re-evaluating where the real opportunities lie beyond more ads and higher spend.
