  • Was great

Was a great podcast prior to them parting ways with Matty. Now just another monotone finance podcast from 2 guys who have never stepped foot on a mine site. Hard listen most episodes, shame given the heyday was unique and provided great insight.

  • Love the show Matt and JC

Great back to back episodes from JC and Matt. Love to hear it from the Aussie POV in the world of mining. Can’t wait for some Canadian content too, especially discussions of North American producers.

  • You know

I’ve always been a fan of the content, 17 “you knows” in the space of 2 minutes from Ellie though near the start of the latest podcast….this is not good presenting. If you’re gonna put female flavour on the podcast guys do better!

Rick Squire on the Junior Miners That Can Actually Make It
Q: How do you balance liquidity with exposure to illiquid early-stage opportunities?
He notes that a firm with around $200 million under management must ride out drawdowns in smaller names, maintain a stable explorer allocation (around 20-25%), and use pullbacks in the explorer segment to systematically add to positions in better-quality projects, like Midas.
Rick Squire on the Junior Miners That Can Actually Make It
Q: What lessons from Q1 are sticking in your mind?
Rick reflects on how January's strong performance forced a rethink about liquidity management and the discipline of selling winners to reset portfolios, while March's macro shock reset expectations and reinforced the need to differentiate by commodity cycle stage rather than chasing all high-flyers.
He Poured Drinks for Mining Legends. Now He Beats Them (Rick Rule)
Q: How has mentorship shaped your career, and what would you do differently today for someone starting in extractives finance?
Seek out the best family offices or mentors in extractive industries, offer to work for free initially to prove value, and focus on building relationships with people who have real skin in the game rather than relying on intermediaries.
He Poured Drinks for Mining Legends. Now He Beats Them (Rick Rule)
Q: What do you view as the core lessons from the Lundin family's approach to exploration and investment?
The core lessons are to act decisively when the odds favor advancement, balance risk with a pragmatic view of downside, and value legacy and the ownership mindset as central to long-term success.
Is Oil the Next Commodity to Rip? (Josh Young)
Q: What is the current sentiment towards oil prices and how are producers responding?
Josh Young discusses the mixed sentiment in the market, highlighting the high bearish positions from hedge funds despite rising oil prices. He explores the disconnect between bearish fundamentals and bullish geopolitical risk.
