  • Love this podcast!

I love how you explain things! I can’t stress enough how awesome this podcast is.some ideas for episodes could be The Transtheoretical Model, attachment theory and trauma modalities. Perhaps that could be for another podcast lol but I simply love how you explain things. Even the longer episodes just everting makes sense.

  • I passed!!

I just passed the NCMHCE, and though this podcast wasn’t the only resource I used, I am VERY confident that it helped me to pass on the first go. Matt does a great job of organizing information and explaining how to both “think like the test” and to apply information in clinical work. Recommend for anyone prepping for a major counseling exam!

The Therapist Who Told Couples to Fight More
Q: Question number one. A family therapist working from a strategic framework is treating a couple who argues constantly and cannot seem to stop. The therapist instructs them to schedule a 50-minute argument every evening at 7 p.m. to argue about whatever they want, then stop when the timer goes off. This intervention is best identified as
Paradoxical directive, since it prescribes the symptom to disrupt its spontaneous function and create evidence of control, aligning with Haley and Madanes' strategic approach.

Q: Question 3: When a parent reports that an ex-husband is abusing a child, what is the therapist's obligation?
File a mandatory report based on reasonable suspicion of child abuse.
Exam Prep: Ethics & Law- Confidentiality, Tarasoff & Mandatory Reporting

Consult with a supervisor and take steps to protect the identifiable third party.
The Episode About Aaron Beck: Let The Intrusive Thinking Begin
Q: A therapist asks a client, what evidence supports that thought? And what evidence might suggest a different interpretation? This intervention is most consistent with what type of therapeutic technique? A, dream analysis? B, cognitive restructuring? C, free association? Or D, exposures therapy?
B, cognitive restructuring.
The Episode About Aaron Beck: Let The Intrusive Thinking Begin
Q: Which of the following best reflects the primary goal of cognitive therapy? A, uncover unconscious conflicts? B, reinforce adaptive behaviors through conditioning? C, identify and modify distorted thinking patterns? Or D, encourage emotional catharsis?
