Let's Talk Gardening Podcast 5/10/2026
Q: Hi Meryl, what ratio and blend should I use for a bucket of seed and soil for patches?
Fill a five-gallon pail halfway with a coarse soil mix, add four cups of grass seed, then mix well with a bit of loam before spreading on the prepared area and watering consistently to keep the seedbed moist.
Let's Talk Gardening Podcast 04/26/2026
Q: When should I transplant my beefsteak and gusto tomatoes started from seed?
Transplant when they're about 6-8 inches tall and then bury most of the stem to create a strong, deep root system; remove excess lower leaves as you plant for better stability.
Let's Talk Gardening Podcast 03/01/2026
Q: What do you do with black rot fungus?
Identify the affected areas, prune out the infected sections beyond the visible signs—often 10 to 12 inches past the visible rot—then bag and dispose of the material to prevent spreading.
Let's Talk Gardening 2-15-26
Q: How should I take care of my transplanted rhubarb?
It's best to transplant rhubarb in early spring when new shoots are visible, making it easier to decide where to divide the plant.
Let's Talk Gardening 2-15-26
Q: What should Kathy know about planting clematis?
Clamatus typically requires full sun and should be planted mid back of a border. They thrive in conditions where their roots are shaded but their heads get sunlight.
