EP 687: Tonya Lester - How to Love Without Losing Yourself
Q: Can you speak a little more about healthy push back?
Healthy push back is about being clear and straightforward when communicating needs, rather than feeling obligated to be mean or difficult to get someone's attention. It requires maturity and a willingness to try communicating in a constructive way.
EP 687: Tonya Lester - How to Love Without Losing Yourself
Q: Tell us a little bit about your story and why you wrote this book about pushing back.
Tonya shares how she observed couples in her practice, particularly how one partner often becomes inactive while the other becomes a caregiver, leading to imbalance. Her own experiences and seeing the same pattern with her sister inspired her to explore the theme of pushing back in relationships.
EP 684: Daniel Ratner - How to Protect Yourself From Emotional Vampires
Q: What are your final words of advice for anyone who wants to go on their last first date?
To feel safe, to feel seen, and to feel like you want to talk to this person again are the key elements of a successful first date.
EP 684: Daniel Ratner - How to Protect Yourself From Emotional Vampires
Q: Do you think that people like that can change?
Some categories of emotional vampires, like narcissists, can be dangerous, but others, like drama queens, may be easier to manage while recognizing their tendencies.
EP 684: Daniel Ratner - How to Protect Yourself From Emotional Vampires
Q: Why do you think so many of us tolerate these kinds of emotional vampires, people who drain us?
Many people lack clarity on how to protect their happiness and don't realize they have the power to set boundaries in relationships.
