  • Finally a good podcast about the market

One of the few podcasts that actually thinks.

Most shows either chase headlines or push a narrative. This one takes a step back and tries to understand what’s really going on—especially when markets, oil, and geopolitics don’t line up the way they should.

What stands out is the willingness to sit in uncertainty instead of forcing a conclusion. That’s rare.

If you’re looking for real perspective instead of noise, this is worth your time.

  • Bloviators

The speakers reiterate the same themes incessantly. Zack is repeatedly self-congratulatory. We hear a lot about their successes but never about their failures. They spend way too much time talking football yet their playoff predictions were ridiculously poor (of course, they never acknowledged it the Monday after).

  • Please go back

I listen to you guys almost daily. I loved the show when it was almost exclusively about markets. And while I agree with most of your political/social takes, I can get that discussion on hundreds of other podcasts. Please go back to focusing on markets rather than ranting about what’s wrong with society.

  • Balanced & Objective

Hosts focus on 1-2 topics each episode and offer a good list of things to think about. Not overly bearish or bullish, they think and speak in decision trees which is enjoyable.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Kuppy: Oil, War, and the Future of Markets
Q: What are the dominant market forces you expect to drive asset prices if Hormuz stays shut, and which sectors do you see as winners or losers?
The guest points to higher energy costs, potential defense spending surges, weak dollar dynamics in certain regions, and a rotation towards energy-heavy and commodity-linked equities, while warning about macro and political risk dampening broad earnings.
Kuppy: Oil, War, and the Future of Markets
Q: First of all, for those who don't know you, how did your view on Hormuz and the energy markets form, and what are the core premises behind your outlook?
The guest explains that the view is grounded in geopolitical risk, supply chain fragility, and the idea that Hormuz's status defines global energy prices more than traditional financial metrics, leading to a trading thesis focused on oil, refiners, and related assets.
Oil Researcher Rory Johnston Explains the Market
Q: Hey Chase, can you give us Rory's view on the current disconnect between physical oil flows and the paper market?
Rory explains that while paper markets can react quickly and volatility can rise, physical market constraints—like actual barrels moving through ports or stored in tanks—will ultimately force prices to reflect real supply and demand. The dislocation is temporary in theory, but as storage buffers tighten and inventories drop, price signals will align more with the physical reality, potentially leading to sharper moves if bottlenecks persist.
Josh Young of Bison Interests on the Oil Market
Q: What drives oil pricing in crisis conditions, and how should investors think about it?
Pricing is driven by marginal supply and demand balance; even small reductions in flow can set higher prices because the last barrels to come to market set the clearing price. Investors should consider the sensitivity of their portfolios to volatility and focus on stock-picking discipline and long-term cash flow reliability rather than market timing.
Asheef Lalani
Q: Asheef, why don't you remind us, kind of give us a little background on who you are, how you got in the business?
I trained as a CA slash CPA in Canada, worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers, then switched to equity research.
