  • Self-analysis?

Pete, I listened to all the episodes. I appreciate what I’ve heard bc I want the church to be accountable for what’s wrong but keep my faith in Jesus. However, it kinda feels like bc you had a failure and the elders didn’t welcome you back with open arms, that you might be deflecting. What you’re saying would seem more genuine if you spent more time analyzing where you personally went wrong, what led to the addiction and deception / inauthenticity. In your therapy, what did you learn about what ... more

  • Hurtful

Pete was probably one of the most influential and compassionate pastors I have ever known. I am compassionate and respectful of his current journey. However his continued references on this platform and facebook of the "white evangelical " as the cause of all wrong in this world and his, is disappointing. He is getting ready to post an interview with Janet Kellogg - who, in a summary of one of her books calls out "white evangelicals " as the main humans that protested C19 vaccines.- as if no oth... more

  • Thank you for a new pathway for doing church modern world!

I really appreciate the intellectual courage and curiosity to think again about how to live a life that follows the teachings and examples of Jesus. The honest appraisal of what fundamentalist evangelicals created when developing and defending the concept of biblical inerrancy, or as Theologian Karl Kuhn refers to in the title of his recently published book, “Reading the Bible Badly”, “How American Christians Misunderstand and Misuse their Scriptures”, disentangles so much of what has become th... more

  • I’m Sorry Pete Was So Badly Hurt

I’m someone still inside the house, but who always loves to explore, observe and learn from others outside.

I knew Pete’s father for many years. I watched many of Pete’s sermons over the years. I wondered why he disappeared suddenly from the pulpit.

I wish pastors and churches weren’t so afraid to admit their faults. Many of the most compelling personal stories are the prodigal stories.

Pete made choices which led to his addiction. Bent Tree made choices intended to protect its image.... more
