  • Binge worthy

Love this podcast. Great speakers/ interviewees/ guests with diverse views, focused interests on the topic, and all so incredibly intelligent. I love the dialogue - makes any topic on corruption interesting. As someone from a small Caribbean island where corruption is rampant, it Would be great to hear more case-studies on countries where corruption is being tackled and what works, what doesn’t, and how NGOs can help.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

146. Diana Bociga on the network architecture of anti-money laundering
Q: What would you change to improve AML governance?
Improve measurement of AML effectiveness, as robust outcome data are lacking; focusing on whether interventions reduce actual money laundering rather than merely increasing activity would guide better resource allocation.
146. Diana Bociga on the network architecture of anti-money laundering
Q: What methodological approach did you use to map the network?
A mixed-methods approach centered on social network analysis, mapping 88 organizations across policy, supervision, and enforcement and conducting 33 interviews to understand collaboration patterns and the reasons behind them.
146. Diana Bociga on the network architecture of anti-money laundering
Q: What are the key structural features of the UK's AML network architecture?
The UK AML network is multiplex, spanning strategic policy and tactical operational dimensions; organizations show homophily, central public-sector brokers connect disparate groups, and there are both efficient and inefficient broker patterns that affect coordination.
145. Maria Nizzero on the kleptocratic enterprise
Q: If you had a magic wand, what would you change to advance these proposals?
Would focus on resourcing—ensuring law enforcement and legal systems have sufficient funding and time to pursue complex enterprise-based cases, training, and cross-sector collaboration to operationalize the proposed tools.
145. Maria Nizzero on the kleptocratic enterprise
Q: Are other countries dealing with kleptocracy similarly, or is this approach innovative for the UK?
The concept aligns with existing anti-mafia and anti-racketeering frameworks used in places like Italy, Switzerland, and the US, and the UK could innovate by adopting an enterprise-focused, national-security framing to mobilize stronger responses.
